TL;DR: The goal of this article is to determine the effect that inflow velocity, suction velocity, and terminal settling velocity of dust particles have on the aspiration coefficient in combination with hood length and inclination angle.
Abstract: A cone hood is an efficient device for capturing dust releases generated by a variety of process equipment. For stationary airflow conditions, a circular cone hood with a round flange is the most efficient design. The goal of this article is to determine the effect that inflow velocity, suction velocity, and terminal settling velocity of dust particles have on the aspiration coefficient in combination with hood length and inclination angle. No studies have yet addressed the efficiency of an exhaust hood facing an updraft flow of air with suspended dust particles. To simulate the moving fluid, we used the discrete vortices method accounting for flow separation at sharp edges of the cone hood. A custom test bench was built to validate the velocity field distribution around the exhaust hood. To evaluate capture efficiency, we determined the aspiration coefficient using plotted limiting trajectories of dust particles by solving equations of particle dynamics numerically in view of gravity and streamli...

TL;DR: In this paper, the learning approaches of 2,364 construction engineering students across nine universities in China were compared among three student groups (i.e., three first-class and three second-class universities on the mainland, and three universities in Hong Kong).
Abstract: Hong Kong is a developed city that utilizes innovative technologies. However, students in Hong Kong, especially in recent years, have been criticized for not adopting a deep learning approach in their studies. In contrast, students in Mainland China are often commended for their diligence. In this generation, education is a critical step in the production of qualified graduates capable of serving society. In higher education, both the learning motives and learning strategies of students are essential components of the entire learning process, since the learning approaches of students at university influence their working attitudes in the industry. This study investigates the learning approaches of 2,364 construction engineering students across nine universities in China. The learning approaches of construction students are compared among three student groups (i.e., three first-class and three second-class universities on the mainland, and three universities in Hong Kong). The results indicate that...

TL;DR: In this paper, a participatory process with a broad range of stakeholders was designed and tested to aid water stress mitigation in Bulgaria's Iskar region, and options adapted for the region such as risk management and industrial and domestic water conservation were studied.
Abstract: With multi-stakeholder issues such as climate change or population growth providing significant challenges for water managers, participatory approaches to planning and management are becoming increasingly popular. To aid water stress mitigation in Bulgaria's Iskar region, a participatory process with a broad range of stakeholders was designed and tested. Options adapted for the region such as risk management and industrial and domestic water conservation were studied. The results suggest that strong research support is needed to adapt participatory management theories into operational planning processes. Definition of appropriate working groups with clear roles and responsibilities are also needed to ensure effective implementation.

TL;DR: In this article, the photoinduced degradation of the pesticide imidacloprid in aqueous solutions, in the presence of TiO2 supported on H-ZSM-5 as photocatalyst, was performed.
Abstract: The composite of TiO2 and zeolite H-ZSM-5 has great photocatalytic ability for organic contaminants over a very large specific surface area and highlighted adsorption capacity. To describe abiotic degradation of imidacloprid, the photoinduced degradation of the pesticide imidacloprid in aqueous solutions, in the presence of TiO2 supported on H-ZSM-5 as photocatalyst, was performed. The study focused on the comparison of the imidacloprid degradation between photolysis and photocatalysis. The experimental results showed that the degradation of imidacloprid was more rapid in the condition of photocatalytic than that of photolysis or TiO2-only. The identification of possible intermediate products during the degradation was investigated by the high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HPLC/TOF-MS). The main photocatalytic products were identified as chloronictinic acid, 1-[(6-chloro-3-pyridinyl) methyl]-2-imidazolidinone and 1-[(6-chloro-3-pyridinyl) methyl]-N-nitroso-2-imidazolidimine.

TL;DR: The proposed Support Vector Machine (SVM) regression has been applied in Baishuihe landslide in Three Gorges Reservoir Area, China and indicates SVM regression is reliable to calculate the displacement factors and can be used in short term prediction of landslide monitoring data.
Abstract: Time series analysis has the ability to forecast the evolve trend of complex systems, which has been the issue in the research of landslide displacement dynamic forecasting. The Support Vector Machine (SVM) regression, we proposed, has been applied in Baishuihe landslide in Three Gorges Reservoir Area, China. The Oracle Data Mining (ODM) PL / SQL API have been introduced to build the SVM regression model for data mining process. The data was divided into two parts, wherein the first 36 months data used for training, and the other 6 months data used for validation. The results show that the error rate of the previous 5 was controlled within 8% and the accuracy of the 6th is 84.1%, which indicates SVM regression is reliable to calculate the displacement factors and can be used in short term prediction of landslide monitoring data.
