TL;DR: The CKD-EPI equation classified fewer individuals as having CKD and more accurately categorized the risk for mortality and ESRD than did the MDRD Study equation across a broad range of populations.
Abstract: 2) was reducedfrom8.7%to6.3%.InestimatedGFRof45to59mL/min/1.73m 2 bytheMDRD Study equation, 34.7% of participants were reclassified to estimated GFR of 60 to 89 mL/min/1.73m 2 bytheCKD-EPIequationandhadlowerincidencerates(per1000personyears) for the outcomes of interest (9.9 vs 34.5 for all-cause mortality, 2.7 vs 13.0 for cardiovascular mortality, and 0.5 vs 0.8 for ESRD) compared with those not reclassified. The corresponding adjusted hazard ratios were 0.80 (95% CI, 0.74-0.86) for all-cause mortality, 0.73 (95% CI, 0.65-0.82) for cardiovascular mortality, and 0.49 (95% CI, 0.270.88) for ESRD. Similar findings were observed in other estimated GFR categories by the MDRD Study equation. Net reclassification improvement based on estimated GFR categories was significantly positive for all outcomes (range, 0.06-0.13; all P.001). Net reclassificationimprovementwassimilarlypositiveinmostsubgroupsdefinedbyage(65 years and 65 years), sex, race/ethnicity (white, Asian, and black), and presence or absence of diabetes and hypertension. The results in the high-risk and CKD cohorts were largely consistent with the general population cohorts. Conclusion The CKD-EPI equation classified fewer individuals as having CKD and more accurately categorized the risk for mortality and ESRD than did the MDRD Study equation across a broad range of populations.

TL;DR: Whether or not their jobs ever provided such things, they will increasingly be searching the world of leisure for ways to express their abilities, fulfill their potential, and identify themselves as unique human beings.
Abstract: Many social scientists believe the future will offer significantly fewer opportunities for most adults to gain and maintain a job in the way they are used to doing today. A smaller number of jobs a...

TL;DR: The development of an instrument to capture the extent to which users of an advanced information technology believe they have appropriated its structures faithfully is described, considered critical if the theoretical base provided by AST is to be fully exploited in understanding the use of advanced information technologies.
Abstract: Adaptive Structuration Theory AST is rapidly becoming an influential theoretical perspective in research on advanced information technologies. However, there still exists a paucity of methods to capture critical AST constructs. This paper describes the development of an instrument to capture the extent to which users of an advanced information technology believe they have appropriated its structures faithfully. The development of such instruments is considered critical if the theoretical base provided by AST is to be fully exploited in understanding the use of advanced information technologies. The development procedure, which occurred in the context of the use of an electronic meeting system, was carried out in three phases that began with initial item development and proceeded through an exploratory to a confirmatory phase. Three experiments, two in the exploratory phase and one in the confirmatory phase, were performed. In the final phase, structural equation modeling techniques were used to confirm the convergent, discriminant, and nomological validity of the resulting five-item scale.

TL;DR: In this article, a consistent application of the p1/3 approximation of the Hartree-Fock-Slater method requires the use of one specific procedure, the sum method, for the calculation of the energy of singlet excited states of closed shell molecules.
Abstract: It is shown that a consistent application of the p 1/3 approximation of the Hartree-Fock-Slater method requires the use of one specific procedure, the sum method, for the calculation of the energy E 1 of singlet excited states of closed shell molecules. Further, E 1 is found to be in reasonable agreement with experiment for a number of molecules, contrary to the energy E 2 obtained according to another method discussed in the literature. The calculation of other multiplet splittings than singlet-triplet in the Hartree-Fock-Slater method is also considered.

TL;DR: It is suggested that aging leads to peroxidative changes to lipids and that these could contribute to loss of viability in soybean seeds.
Abstract: Soybean seeds age rapidly during storage at high temperature and high relative humidity. The axes of such aged seeds contain high levels of malondialdehyde, a product of the peroxidation of unsaturated fatty acids. The levels of linoleic (18:2) and linolenic (18:3) acids in a polar lipid (phospholipid) fraction decrease during aging and more dramatically during postaging deterioration. None of these changes occurred in seeds that have been stored at high temperature but low relative humidity. No superoxide dismutase activity was detected in any nonimbibed seed. In viable seeds, activity was detectable 1.5 hours after the onset of imbibition, but none was found in aged seeds up to 5 hours. It is suggested that aging leads to peroxidative changes to lipids and that these could contribute to loss of viability.
