30 Jun 2000TL;DR: In this article, a filtered digital signal, having M bits, is processed to form an one-bit XOR signal, and a selected number of LSB bits of the modified filtered signal is removed to form a dithered filtered signal with a noise floor that is reduced for low frequencies.
Abstract: Method and system for adjusting or controlling a noise floor of a filtered signal for low frequencies. A filtered digital signal, having M bits, is processed to form an one-bit XOR signal. This XOR signal is added to the filtered signal to produce a modified filtered signal. A selected number of LSB bits of the modified filtered signal is removed to form a dithered filtered signal with a noise floor that is reduced for low frequencies.

09 Aug 2005TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus for calibrating the slice level of a pulse detector monitor the quality of the detected pulse signal to determine and optimize slice level, which is performed in two parts, including a coarse stage and a fine stage.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for calibrating the slice level of a pulse detector monitors the quality of the detected pulse signal to determine and optimize slice level. The method practiced may include two parts, including a coarse stage and a fine stage. The method practiced may further include a continuous adjustment mode of operation.

22 Jul 1993TL;DR: In this article, a ghost cancellation reference (GCR) signal is applied to the input of the active filter during a vertical blanking period to generate a filtered GCR signal at the output of active filter, and the filter coefficients are adjusted based on the error signal to obtain a set of new coefficients.
Abstract: A ghost cancellation system for filtering out ghosts in a received video signal including an active filter (14) having a filtering function defined by a first set of coefficients (akold) and having an input and an output. A transmitted ghost cancellation reference (GCR) signal is applied to the input of the active filter during a vertical blanking period to generate a filtered GCR signal at the output of active filter. The filtered GCR signal is compared with a ghostless GCR signal to obtain an error signal, and the filter coefficients are adjusted based on the error signal to obtain a set of new coefficients (aknew). The active filter includes a feedforword FIR filter (14-1) and an adder (14-3) serially connected between the input and the output, a feedback IIR filter (14-2) and a switch (14-4) serially connected between the output and the adder, the feedforward FIR filter and the feedback IIR filter having filtering functions defined by the coefficients.

10 Nov 1997TL;DR: In this article, a data block is analyzed in a predefined order, and corresponding entries identifying data blocks containing at least one non-zero value are stored in that same order in a list of blocks.
Abstract: A data encoder and method successively analyzes successively smaller blocks of a specified data array. Data blocks are analyzed in a predefined order, and corresponding entries identifying data blocks containing at least one non-zero value are stored in that same order in a list of blocks. Whenever a data block is processed, if the data block is entirely filled with zero data it is so identified in the output data (371) and no further processing of the subblock is required. Otherwise, if the size of the data block is greater than a predefined minimum block size (376) (e.g., 2 x 2), the block is divided into smaller data blocks and those smaller data blocks are put on the list of blocks for further processing. Finally, if the size of a data block that is being processed is the predefined minimum block size, values representing all the data items in that data block are written into the output data (396).

12 Nov 2010TL;DR: In this article, a radio system comprises a front-end receiver for receiving a RF signal and converting the RF signal into a digital payload signal, and a base-band processor for processing the digital payload signals.
Abstract: A radio system comprises a front-end receiver for receiving a RF signal and converting the RF signal into a digital payload signal. The system further comprises a base-band processor for processing the digital payload signal, and a serial data interface over which the front-end communicates the digital payload signal and meta data to the base-band processor. The meta data may comprise information indicating whether a corresponding digital payload signal communicated over the serial data interface is valid and additional information of the front-end status, e.g. gain or state of tuning.
