Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide a comparison of major input assumptions and outputs of recent studies focused on mitigating to the most stringent targets explored, which means around the 2°C level of global average temperature increase by 2100.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a case study for the evolution of a MENA energy system toward an increasingly sustainable power generation mix is presented, which shows that rooftop solar PV can be an economically viable technology choice and hence will increasingly become part of regional energy strategies as technology costs continue to fall and tariff reforms continue to gain traction.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors combine consistent and realistic narratives on several technology dimensions with a global sensitivity analysis in a national, bottom-up, optimizing energy system model to produce structured insights into the impact of low-carbon technology and resource availability on the long-term development of the UK energy system under ambitious decarbonisation pathways.

40 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a review of the political economy of grid-connected solar energy in India is presented, while unpacking and illustrating the temporal evolution of policy and institutions responsible for solar energy development.

38 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a number of scenario studies to assess the share of Russian natural gas in the European natural gas mix going forward are presented, and the authors conclude that remarkable little changes in the EU natural gas mixture are observed in the scenarios under study, and that absent very drastic policy interventions Russian Natural Gas will continue to play a prominent role in the future.

36 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate the integration of institutional perspectives on energy system transitions into formal energy economic modelling, and highlight some of the regional political dimensions associated with future investment targeting in the UK energy system.

36 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present transformation scenarios for the case of Austria with GHG reduction to about 20% of the Kyoto baseline, with an optimization model integrating the energy sector, land use and biomass flows.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper analyzed the total industrial energy consumption and energy-related carbon emission of Tianjin from 2003 to 2012, and a model was able to predict the future with a high degree of accuracy to check if the target can be achieved that reduce its energy consumption per unit of GDP by 18% and carbon emission per unit GDP by 17% during the 12th five-year period.

Journal ArticleDOI
André Månsson1
TL;DR: In this article, a scenario-based method was developed to analyze the influence of external factors on energy security, focusing on passenger and freight transport, by analysing the vulnerabilities and capabilities of five different climate mitigation strategies, investigating previous security scenarios and identifying uncertain drivers.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a power structure of economic models of price responsive loads, based on price elasticity of electricity demand, perceived price and customer benefit function, was proposed to estimate the influences of block pricing policy and TOU-block pricing policy on residential electricity demand and electricity expenses.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a techno-economic optimisation model of the Alberta power system is developed in the Open Source Energy Modelling System (OSeMOSYS) to explore the impact of carbon pricing to 2060.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the long-term development options of the Lithuanian energy sector and proposed different measures to increase the country's electricity supply security and their costs to electricity consumers through the special design of scenarios analyzed.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare six energy models that have played various roles in informing the state policymakers in setting climate policy goals and targets, including stock-turnover back-casting models, a least-cost optimization model, macroeconomic/macro-econometric models, and an electricity dispatch model.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the details of the recent Sino-Russian gas deal and also of the preceding oil agreements, as well as their implications for SinoRussian energy cooperation.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, three scenarios of electricity demand in Cameroon are presented, assuming different economic growth levels, and the corresponding expansion of the electricity generation system and its emissions were then analyzed.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors align the study of gas and power industries by providing a holistic framework for the thorough identification and discussion of power and gas sector structure, infrastructure, market, and regulatory drivers.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluate the Green Deal policy landscape in relation to the requirement of energy efficiency retrofit services (EERS) sector expansion and find that EERS expansion is most successful if policies are designed more holistically; UK policies show strategies which focus on simply the property and not the occupants have their disadvantages.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, an analysis of coal-powered power generation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia showed that coal would provide lower cost generation than either solar or nuclear power in the near-term.
