40Ar/39Ar ages of alkali feldspar xenocrysts constrain the timing of intraplate basaltic volcanism

TLDR
In this article, entrained anorthoclase megacrysts were used to yield 40Ar/39Ar ages for scoria cones and maars from the Pliocene-Holocene Newer Volcanic Province (NVP) of south-eastern Australia.

Interpreting and reporting 40Ar/39Ar geochronologic data

Allen J. Schaen, +44 more
TL;DR: The 40Ar/39Ar dating method is among the most versatile of geochronometers, having the potential to date a broad variety of K-bearing materials spanning from the time of Earth's formation into the historical realm.

Understanding volcanic facies in the subsurface: a combined core, wireline logging and image log data set from the PTA2 and KMA1 boreholes, Big Island, Hawai`i

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide initial results from borehole logging operations within two fully cored lava-dominated borehole sequences, PTA2 and KMA1, on the BigIsland of Hawai'i.

Evidence of a common source component for east Australian Cenozoic mafic magmatism

TL;DR: In this article, an extensive database of new and previous major element, trace element, and radiogenic isotope data and principal component analysis from key volcanic exposures in Queensland and New South Wales was used to find no systematic geochemical differences between the two groups.

An evidence-based approach to accurate interpretation of 40Ar/39Ar ages from basaltic rocks

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present 40 Ar/ 39 Ar step-heating data for multiple samples from two Quaternary basalt flows (0.8038 ± 0.0017 and 2.309 ± 0.009 Ma) of the intraplate Newer Volcanic Province, southeast Australia.

Intercalibration of standards, absolute ages and uncertainties in 40Ar/39Ar dating

TL;DR: McDougall et al. as mentioned in this paper derived intercalibration factors for McClure Mountain hornblende (MMhb-1), GHC-305 biotite, GA-1550, Taylor Creek sanidine (TCs), relative to Fish Canyon sanidine(ACs), were derived from 797 analyses involving 11 separate irradiations with well-constrained neutronfluence variations.

A redetermination of the isotopic abundances of atmospheric Ar

TL;DR: In this article, the isotopic abundances of atmospheric Ar were determined using a dynamically operated isotope ratio mass spectrometer with minor modifications and special gas handling techniques to avoid fractionation.
