Aerosol optical depth over a remote semi-arid region of South Africa from spectral measurements of the daytime solar extinction and the nighttime stellar extinction

TLDR
Spectral daytime aerosol optical depths have been measured at Sutherland, South Africa (32°22′S, 20°48′E), from January 1998 to November 1999, and the comparison of daytime and nighttime measurements for the years 1998-1999 makes it possible to validate the astronomical dataset of aerosol infrared depth ( τ a ) dating back to 1991 as mentioned in this paper.

TL;DR: In this paper, a long-term study of PBL top heights and PBL growth rates in South Africa was conducted using ground-based and satellite LIDAR measurements, and the results indicated that the ECMWF model agreed the best with mean relative difference of 15.4%, while the second best correlation was with the SAWS model with corresponding difference of 20.1%.

Inferring wavelength dependence of AOD and Ångström exponent over a sub-tropical station in South Africa using AERONET data: influence of meteorology, long-range transport and curvature effect.

Biomass Burning in the Tropics: Impact on Atmospheric Chemistry and Biogeochemical Cycles
