TLDR
In this article, an anti-angiogenic factor and a polymeric carrier were used for embolization of blood vessels and eliminating biliary, urethral, esophageal, and tracheal/bronchial obstructions.
Abstract
The present invention provides compositions comprising an anti-angiogenic factor, and a polymeric carrier. Representative examples of anti-angiogenic factors include Anti-Invasive Factor, Retinoic acids and derivatives thereof, and paclitaxel. Also provided are methods for embolizing blood vessels, and eliminating biliary, urethral, esophageal, and tracheal/bronchial obstructions.

In vitro and in vivo assay for agents which treat mucus hypersecretion

TL;DR: In this paper, an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGF-R) antagonist is used to inhibit the degranulation of goblet cells that results in airway mucus production.

Polymers of fluorinated and hydrophilic monomers

TL;DR: A polymer blend that contains a polymer of fluorinated monomers and another biocompatible polymer can form a coating on a medical device, which can be used for treat, prevent or ameliorate a medical condition.

Natural tissue stent

TL;DR: In this paper, a medical implant made from multiple layers of non-synthetic, natural tissues is provided, which includes openings that extend radially through the wall of the medical implant.

Medical device coated with a coating containing elastin pentapeptide VGVPG

TL;DR: In this article, a copolymer comprising a block of an elastin pentapeptide was proposed for medical devices including coatings, which included a topcoat over a layer of polyvinyl alcohol on a hydrophobic coating or over a porous coating comprising pores or depots that include a bioactive agent.

The pathogenesis of atherosclerosis: a perspective for the 1990s

TL;DR: The ability to control the expression of genes encoding these molecules and to target specific cell types provides opportunities to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic agents to induce the regression of the lesions and, possibly, to prevent their formation.

Vascular endothelial growth factor induced by hypoxia may mediate hypoxia-initiated angiogenesis.

TL;DR: It is shown that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) probably functions as a hypoxia-inducible angiogenic factor and is specifically induced in a subset of glioblastoma cells distinguished by their immediate proximity to necrotic foci and the clustering of capillaries alongside VEGF-producing cells.

A Comparison of Balloon-Expandable-Stent Implantation with Balloon Angioplasty in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease

TL;DR: The clinical and angiographic outcomes were better in patients who received a stent than in those who received standard coronary angioplasty, however, this benefit was achieved at the cost of a significantly higher risk of vascular complications at the access site and a longer hospital stay.

Tumor cells secrete a vascular permeability factor that promotes accumulation of ascites fluid.

TL;DR: Tumor ascites fluids from guinea pigs, hamsters, and mice contain activity that rapidly increases microvascular permeability, and this activity is secreted by these tumor cells and a variety of other tumor cell lines in vitro.
