TLDR
In this article, an anti-angiogenic factor and a polymeric carrier were used for embolization of blood vessels and eliminating biliary, urethral, esophageal, and tracheal/bronchial obstructions.
Abstract
The present invention provides compositions comprising an anti-angiogenic factor, and a polymeric carrier. Representative examples of anti-angiogenic factors include Anti-Invasive Factor, Retinoic acids and derivatives thereof, and paclitaxel. Also provided are methods for embolizing blood vessels, and eliminating biliary, urethral, esophageal, and tracheal/bronchial obstructions.

Sutures and surgical staples for anastamoses, wound closures, and surgical closures

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe wound closure devices that use amphiphilic copolymer or parylene coatings to control the release rate of an agent, such as a drug or a biological material, polymerizing a solution containing monomers and the agent to form a coating.

Medical device including drug-loaded fibers

TL;DR: An endovascular or intraluminal stent comprising an expandable framework including a plurality of interconnected undulating or otherwise connected segments, and fibers disposed on the expandable structure is considered in this article, where at least a portion of the fibers is loaded with a therapeutic agent.

Polymer compositions and methods for their use

TL;DR: Compositions comprising anti-fibrotic agent(s) and/or polymeric compositions can be used in various medical applications including the prevention of surgical adhesions and treatment of inflammatory arthritis, treatment of scars and keloids, and the treatment of vascular disease as mentioned in this paper.
Patent

Drug-releasing coatings for medical devices

TL;DR: In this article, a drug-ionic surfactant complex overlying a reservoir layer containing a polymer and the drug which is substantially free of ionic surfactants is presented.

The pathogenesis of atherosclerosis: a perspective for the 1990s

TL;DR: The ability to control the expression of genes encoding these molecules and to target specific cell types provides opportunities to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic agents to induce the regression of the lesions and, possibly, to prevent their formation.

Vascular endothelial growth factor induced by hypoxia may mediate hypoxia-initiated angiogenesis.

TL;DR: It is shown that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) probably functions as a hypoxia-inducible angiogenic factor and is specifically induced in a subset of glioblastoma cells distinguished by their immediate proximity to necrotic foci and the clustering of capillaries alongside VEGF-producing cells.

A Comparison of Balloon-Expandable-Stent Implantation with Balloon Angioplasty in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease

TL;DR: The clinical and angiographic outcomes were better in patients who received a stent than in those who received standard coronary angioplasty, however, this benefit was achieved at the cost of a significantly higher risk of vascular complications at the access site and a longer hospital stay.

Tumor cells secrete a vascular permeability factor that promotes accumulation of ascites fluid.

TL;DR: Tumor ascites fluids from guinea pigs, hamsters, and mice contain activity that rapidly increases microvascular permeability, and this activity is secreted by these tumor cells and a variety of other tumor cell lines in vitro.
