TLDR
In this article, an anti-angiogenic factor and a polymeric carrier were used for embolization of blood vessels and eliminating biliary, urethral, esophageal, and tracheal/bronchial obstructions.
Abstract
The present invention provides compositions comprising an anti-angiogenic factor, and a polymeric carrier. Representative examples of anti-angiogenic factors include Anti-Invasive Factor, Retinoic acids and derivatives thereof, and paclitaxel. Also provided are methods for embolizing blood vessels, and eliminating biliary, urethral, esophageal, and tracheal/bronchial obstructions.

Implantable medical devices fabricated from block copolymers

Yunbing Wang
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a block copolymer composed of an elastomeric homopolymer block and a glassy polymer block, which is used for stents.

Nano-patterned implant surfaces

TL;DR: In this article, a bioerodible endoprosthesis erodes to a desirable geometry that can provide, e.g., improved mechanical properties or degradation characteristics, improving the performance of the endo-stroke.

Implantable or insertable medical devices containing radiation-treated polymer for improved delivery of therapeutic agents

TL;DR: In this article, an implantable or insertable medical device which comprises (a) a therapeutic agent and (b) a polymeric release region comprising a polymer is treated with a radiation dose that is effective to substantially increase the cumulative release of the therapeutic agent subsequent to administration to a patient.

Devices and methods for the treatment of cancer

TL;DR: In this article, an internal therapeutic product consisting of an anti-cancer component selected from one or both of: a radionucleotide, a cytotoxic drug, and a silicon component was presented for the treatment of cancer.

Medical device with a grooved surface

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for manufacturing a medical device comprising a grooved surface is described. But this method is restricted to a single stent and is not suitable for the case of multiple stents.

The pathogenesis of atherosclerosis: a perspective for the 1990s

TL;DR: The ability to control the expression of genes encoding these molecules and to target specific cell types provides opportunities to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic agents to induce the regression of the lesions and, possibly, to prevent their formation.

Vascular endothelial growth factor induced by hypoxia may mediate hypoxia-initiated angiogenesis.

TL;DR: It is shown that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) probably functions as a hypoxia-inducible angiogenic factor and is specifically induced in a subset of glioblastoma cells distinguished by their immediate proximity to necrotic foci and the clustering of capillaries alongside VEGF-producing cells.

A Comparison of Balloon-Expandable-Stent Implantation with Balloon Angioplasty in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease

TL;DR: The clinical and angiographic outcomes were better in patients who received a stent than in those who received standard coronary angioplasty, however, this benefit was achieved at the cost of a significantly higher risk of vascular complications at the access site and a longer hospital stay.

Tumor cells secrete a vascular permeability factor that promotes accumulation of ascites fluid.

TL;DR: Tumor ascites fluids from guinea pigs, hamsters, and mice contain activity that rapidly increases microvascular permeability, and this activity is secreted by these tumor cells and a variety of other tumor cell lines in vitro.
