Abstract
Awareness of individual and group activities is critical to successful collaboration and is commonly supported in CSCW systems by active, information generation mechanisms separate from the shared workspace. These mechanisms pena~ise information providers, presuppose relevance to the recipient, and make access difficult, We discuss a study of shared editor use which suggests that awareness information provided and exploited passively through the shared workspace, allows users to move smoothly between close and loose collaboration, and to assign and coordinate work dynamically. Passive awareness mechanisms promise effective support for collaboration requiring this sort of behaviour, whilst avoiding problems with active approaches.

Collaboration and interference: awareness with mice or touch input

TL;DR: It is suggested that it is more important that resources are available to negotiate interference rather than necessarily to attempt to prevent it, and higher levels of awareness for the multi-touch condition accompanied by significantly more actions that interfere with each other.

Beyond Web technology-lessons learnt from BSCW

TL;DR: The BSCW shared workspace system is described, a Web based groupware system developed at GMD which provides basic cooperation support through 'shared workspaces' which can be used for information sharing by group members.

Adapting Interaction Analysis to Support Evaluation and Regulation: A Case Study

TL;DR: This paper presents an experience performed in an authentic learning scenario using interaction analysis for supporting regulation for students and evaluation for teachers adapting its functionality depending on analysis needs of teacher and learners that participate in the activity.

Awareness modelling and its application in cooperative network management

TL;DR: According to this study, the awareness model seems to be able to explain some problems of cooperation in this business environment and it can be applied in different organisations and businesses.

Concurrency control in groupware systems

RCS—a system for version control

TL;DR: Basic version control concepts are introduced and the practice of version control using RCS is discussed, and usage statistics show that RCS's delta method is space and time efficient.

Why CSCW applications fail: problems in the design and evaluationof organizational interfaces

TL;DR: Examination of several application areas reveals a common dynamic: a factor contributing to the application’s failure is the disparity between those who will benefit from an application and those who must do additional work to support it.
