Bioclimate of Italy: application of the worldwide bioclimatic classification system
TLDR
In this paper, the WBCS of Rivas-Martinez was applied to the Italian territory and surrounding areas between latitudes 35°47′-46°60′ N and longitudes 5°92′-21°39′ E.Abstract:
The worldwide bioclimatic classification system (WBCS) of Rivas-Martinez was applied to the Italian territory and surrounding areas between latitudes 35°47′–46°60′ N and longitudes 5°92′–21°39′ E. The ‘WorldClim’ precipitation and temperature dataset was used as the source data. Application of the WBCS in a geographic information system allowed the production of macrobioclimates, bioclimates, ombrotypes, continentality, compensated thermicity index and ombro-evaporal index maps at a scale of 1:5,500,000, and a map of thermotypes at a scale of 1:2,250,000. Moreover, the isobioclimates of Italy are identified and quantified in terms of areas. These maps are available here as raster datasets (1 km spatial resolution) and are useful for: (i) rapid bioclimatic diagnosis of the Italian territories; and (ii) vegetation–environment relationship modeling at the national scale.read more

Changes in the Late Pleistocene small-mammal distribution in the Italian Peninsula
TL;DR: A georeferenced database with 51 Italian Peninsula sites has been built in order to investigate changes in the species range distribution and the evolution of the small-mammal community during the Late Pleistocene, with a special focus on the late Marine Isotope Stage 3 (MIS 3) to Late Glacial assemblages.

Global analyses underrate part of the story: finding applicable results for the conservation planning of small Sardinian islets’ flora
TL;DR: This study of a representative set of Mediterranean islets contributes to the knowledge base about the controversial role of very small islets in biological conservation and suggests that local studies about their conservation planning are needed worldwide.

Trends of plant communities growing on the Etruscan tombs (Cerveteri, Italy) related to different management practices
TL;DR: In the UNESCO site of the Etruscan necropolis, the management of archaeological sites is a recurrent problem when considering the conservation of historic structures and biodiversity as mentioned in this paper, which is the case in the case of this site.

TL;DR: It is suggested that motherhood is a stressful event for female chamois, and a multi-factorial compromise between reproductive stage and stress may be necessary in a group-living animal.

Endemic and alien vascular plant diversity in the small Mediterranean islands of Sardinia: Drivers and implications for their conservation
TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored how endemic and alien vascular plant species richness and the compositional dissimilarity of small Mediterranean continental islands vary according to factors related to human activities, geography/landscape, and climate.

The measurement of observer agreement for categorical data

TL;DR: A general statistical methodology for the analysis of multivariate categorical data arising from observer reliability studies is presented and tests for interobserver bias are presented in terms of first-order marginal homogeneity and measures of interob server agreement are developed as generalized kappa-type statistics.

A Coefficient of agreement for nominal Scales
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a procedure for having two or more judges independently categorize a sample of units and determine the degree, significance, and significance of the units. But they do not discuss the extent to which these judgments are reproducible, i.e., reliable.

Predictive habitat distribution models in ecology
TL;DR: A review of predictive habitat distribution modeling is presented, which shows that a wide array of models has been developed to cover aspects as diverse as biogeography, conservation biology, climate change research, and habitat or species management.
