Abstract
The acid-catalyzed synthesis of cucurbit[n]urils from formaldehyde and glycoluril is poorly understood. In this paper, we examine a wide range of reaction conditions that include the effects of acid type, acid concentration, reactant concentrations, and temperature to both probe the mechanism and optimize the yields of isolated cucurbit[n]urils, where n = 5−10. A mechanism for the formation of these cucurbit[n]urils is presented. Individual cucurbit[n]urils were unambiguously identified in reaction mixtures using ESMS and 13C NMR.

Host-guest complex of a water-soluble cucurbit[6]uril derivative with the hydrochloride salt of 3-amino-5-phenylpyrazole

TL;DR: In this paper, the 1H NMR spectra analysis established a basic interaction model in which an inclusion complex with a host:guest ratio of 1:1 forms, in which the host selectively binds the phenyl moiety of the guest.

pH responsive self-assembly of cucurbit[7]urils and polystyrene-block-polyvinylpyridine micelles for hydrophobic drug delivery

TL;DR: Release study of UV active pyrene from the membrane at different pH values revealed that the system is only operational under basic conditions and that the host-guest interaction of CB[7] with P4VPH+ significantly slows down cargo release.

Supramolecular encapsulation of vitamin B 6 by macrocyclic nanocontainer cucurbit[7]uril

TL;DR: The results have demonstrated that vitamin B6 forms stable host-guest complexes within CB[7] in 1 : 1 stoichiometry, with a binding affinity of (4.0 ± 0.5) × 103 M-1.

Tunable fluorescent pseudorotaxane from axle-length-dependent cucurbit[7]uril complexation

TL;DR: A series of aliphatic-chain-appended linear π-conjugated water-soluble cationic fluorophore axle guests with electronic acceptor–donor–acceptor properties have been synthesized, providing new insight for the construction of pseudorotaxanes and fluorescent materials.

Host–guest complexes of cucurbituril with the 4-methylbenzylammonium lon, alkali-metal cations and NH4+

TL;DR: In this article, the existence of two different complexes of cucurbituril with 4-methylbenzylammonium ions was reported. But the 1 : 1 stability constants were not reported for the 2 : 1 complexes with different cations.
