Flame Acceleration in the Early Stages of Burning in Tubes

TL;DR: In this paper, an analytical theory of flame acceleration is developed, which determines the growth rate, the total acceleration time, and the maximal increase of the flame surface area, and direct numerical simulations of the process are performed for the complete set of combustion equations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of premixed flames on turbulence and turbulent scalar transport

TL;DR: In this article, experimental data and results of direct numerical simulations are reviewed in order to show that premixed combustion can change the basic characteristics of a fluctuating velocity field (the so-called flame-generated turbulence) and the direction of scalar fluxes (the countergradient or pressure-driven transport) in a turbulent flow.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cellular instabilities and self-acceleration of outwardly propagating spherical flames

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental study was conducted on several aspects of cellular instabilities of outwardly propagating spherical premixed flames using a recently developed constant and high-pressure combustion chamber, and it was demonstrated that hydrodynamic instability is greatly enhanced with increasing pressure and hence decreasing flame thickness, although the influence can also be moderated by progressively important three-body termination reactions as the pressure increases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamics of premixed hydrogen/air flames in microchannels

TL;DR: In this paper, the stabilization and dynamics of premixed hydrogen/air atmospheric-pressure flames in planar microchannels of prescribed wall temperature are investigated with respect to the inflow velocity and channel height (0.3 to 1.0 mm).

Renormalization-group analysis of turbulence.

TL;DR: Using renormalization-group methods and the postulated equivalence between the inertial-range structures of turbulent flows satisfying initial and boundary conditions and of flows driven by a random force, the Kolmogorov constant and Batchelor constant are evaluated and the skewness factor and power-law exponent are evaluated.
