Ecology and Applications of Benthic Foraminifera
TLDR
This book presents the ecological background required to explain how fossil forms are used in dating rocks and reconstructing past environmental features including changes of sea level and demonstrates how living foraminifera can be used to monitor modern-day environmental change.Abstract:
In this volume John Murray investigates the ecological processes that control the distribution, abundance, and species diversity of benthic foraminifera in environments ranging from marsh to the deepest ocean. To interpret the fossil record it is necessary to have an understanding of the ecology of modern foraminifera and the processes operating after death leading to burial and fossilisation. This book presents the ecological background required to explain how fossil forms are used in dating rocks and reconstructing past environmental features including changes of sea level. It demonstrates how living foraminifera can be used to monitor modern-day environmental change. Ecology and Applications of Benthic Foraminifera presents a comprehensive and global coverage of the subject using all the available literature. It is supported by a website hosting a large database of additional ecological information (www.cambridge.org/0521828392) and will form an important reference for academic researchers and graduate students in Earth and Environmental Sciences.read more

Foraminiferal biodiversity associated with cold-water coral carbonate mounds and open slope of SE Rockall Bank (Irish continental margin—NE Atlantic)
Caterina Morigi,Anna Sabbatini,G. Vitale,I. Pancotti,Andrew J. Gooday,Gerard C.A. Duineveld,H.C. de Stigter,Roberto Danovaro,Alessandra Negri +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the abundance and biodiversity of "live" (Rose Bengal stained) foraminifera varies with, and is related to, the occurrence of cold-water coral (CWC) on the Rockall Bank (NE Atlantic).

Reconstruction of the unusual Middle Miocene (Badenian) palaeoenvironment of the Carpathian Foredeep (Lomnice/Tišnov denudational relict, Czech Republic)
TL;DR: In this article, multiproxy sedimentological, gammaspectrometric, foraminiferal, calcareous nannoplankton, and otolith data were used for the reconstruction of the Badenian (Middle Miocene) history of the Moravian part of the Carpathian Foredeep.

Calcium isotope ratios in calcitic tests of benthic foraminifers
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analysed Ca isotope ratios of the infaunal foraminiferal species Cassidulina laevigata, Elphidium spp., Gyroidinoides spp, and Uvigerina peregrina over a depth-temperature gradient.

Distribution of trace metals and the benthic foraminiferal assemblage as a characterization of the environment in the north Minjiang River Estuary (Fujian, China).
TL;DR: The adaptability of using benthic foraminifera as bio-monitors of trace metal pollution in marginal marine environments is supported, showing that the species composition is adversely influenced by Cr, Cu, Ga, Pb, Rb, Zn, and Zr, whereas sand may exert a positive influence on Quinqueloculina.

Dissimilarity between living and dead benthic foraminiferal assemblages in the Aveiro Continental Shelf (Portugal)
Maria Virgínia Alves Martins,Maria Virgínia Alves Martins,Johann Hohenegger,Fabrizio Frontalini,João Alveirinho Dias,Mauro Cesar Geraldes,Fernando Rocha +6 more
TL;DR: The highest densities and diversities of the LAs are found in the middle continental shelf on gravel deposits (coarse and very coarse sands) mostly due to the substrate stability, reduced deposition of fine sedimentary particles, availability of organic matter with high quality related to oceanic primary productivity likely induced by upwelling events, and oxygenated porewaters conditions.

The measurement of diversity in different types of biological collections
TL;DR: Information content may be used as a measure of the diversity of a many-species biological collection whereby the sample size is progressively increased by addition of new quadrats and the mean increment in total diversity that results from enlarging the sample still more provides an estimate of the Diversity per individual in the whole population.

The Relation Between the Number of Species and the Number of Individuals in a Random Sample of an Animal Population
TL;DR: It is shown that in a large collection of Lepidoptera captured in Malaya the frequency of the number of species represented by different numbers of individuals fitted somewhat closely to a hyperbola type of curve, so long as only the rarer species were considered.
