TLDR
In this article, the effects of different nitrogen (N) to phosphorus loading ratios on phytoplankton community composition and primary production in a naturally eutrophic environment were assessed.
Abstract
1. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of different nitrogen (N) to phosphorus (P) loading ratios on phytoplankton community composition and primary production in a naturally eutrophic ...

Human-induced nitrogen–phosphorus imbalances alter natural and managed ecosystems across the globe

TL;DR: It is shown that limited phosphorus and nitrogen availability are likely to jointly reduce future carbon storage by natural ecosystems during this century and if phosphorus fertilizers cannot be made increasingly accessible, the crop yields projections of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment imply an increase of the nutrient deficit in developing regions.

The C:N:P stoichiometry of organisms and ecosystems in a changing world: A review and perspectives

TL;DR: The results suggest that warming and drought can increase C:N and C:P ratios in warm-dry and temperate-dry terrestrial ecosystems, especially, when high temperatures and drought coincide.

The elemental stoichiometry of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and its relationships with organismic lifestyle and ecosystem structure and function: a review and perspectives

TL;DR: Combining elemental stoichiometry with metabolomics and/or genomics should improve the understanding of the coupling of different levels of biological organization, from elemental composition to the structure and evolution of ecosystems, via cellular metabolism and nutrient cycling.

Cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins: The influence of nitrogen versus phosphorus

TL;DR: Cyanobacteria should not be treated as a single group when considering the potential effects of changes in nutrient loading on phytoplankton community structure and neither should the N2-fixing Nostocales, as the two most abundant potentially toxin producing Nostocale in this study were found in lakes with high N relative to P enrichment.

Climate change effects on nitrogen loading from cultivated catchments in Europe: implications for nitrogen retention, ecological state of lakes and adaptation

TL;DR: In this paper, a number of models of various complexity for Danish streams and lakes suggest an increase in runoff and N transport on an annual basis (higher during winter and typically lower during summer) in streams, a slight increase in N concentrations in streams despite higher losses in riparian wetlands, higher absolute retention of N in lakes (but not as percentage of loading), but only minor changes in lake water concentrations.

A modified single solution method for the determination of phosphate in natural waters

J. Murphy, +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a single solution reagent was described for the determination of phosphorus in sea water, which consists of an acidified solution of ammonium molybdate containing ascorbic acid and a small amount of antimony.

Experimental Design and Data Analysis for Biologists

TL;DR: An essential textbook for any student or researcher in biology needing to design experiments, sample programs or analyse the resulting data is as discussed by the authors, covering both classical and Bayesian philosophies, before advancing to the analysis of linear and generalized linear models Topics covered include linear and logistic regression, simple and complex ANOVA models (for factorial, nested, block, split-plot and repeated measures and covariance designs), and log-linear models Multivariate techniques, including classification and ordination, are then introduced.
