TLDR
In this article, the Mann-Kendall (MK) test was applied to detect changes in annual maximum daily precipitation (AMP) and seasonal SMP (SMP) across Canada for 223 stations in six regions during four periods (1900-2010, 1930 -2010, 1950 -2010 and 1970 -2010) and the Pettitt test was used to evaluate change points.

The causes and impacts of water resources crises in the Pearl River Delta

TL;DR: In this article, the causes and impacts of some of the water resource crises faced by estuaries under dramatically changing environments, based on studies in the Pearl River Delta (PRD), are analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spatial and temporal variations in surface soil moisture and vegetation cover in the Loess Plateau from 2000 to 2015

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the spatial and temporal variations in soil moisture content (SMC) and vegetation cover in the Loess Plateau after 1999 and found that the relationship between vegetation cover and SMC varied over time.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of precipitation extremes in India during the 21st century under SSP1-1.9 mitigation scenarios of CMIP6 GCMs

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a 30-year observed (1985-2014) precipitation, and the latest Coupled Model Intercomparison Phase 6 (CMIP6) Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) based precipitation scenarios to assess the impact of precipitation extremes in near future (2020-2049) and far future (2070-2099) periods over India.

The characteristics and causes of increasingly severe saltwater intrusion in Pearl River Estuary

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors investigated the causes and effects of increasingly severe saltwater intrusion in the Pearl River Estuary (PRE), China, using long-term observation data for river channel bathymetry, hydrology, hydraulics, and meteorology.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spatiotemporal variations of extreme precipitation and its potential driving factors in China’s North-South Transition Zone during 1960–2017

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors analyzed the spatiotemporal variations of extreme precipitation events in the Qinba mountains and the relationship between the changes of the extreme precipitation indices and potential factors (including geographical factors and atmospheric circulation patterns).

Controlling the false discovery rate: a practical and powerful approach to multiple testing

TL;DR: In this paper, a different approach to problems of multiple significance testing is presented, which calls for controlling the expected proportion of falsely rejected hypotheses -the false discovery rate, which is equivalent to the FWER when all hypotheses are true but is smaller otherwise.

Estimates of the Regression Coefficient Based on Kendall's Tau

TL;DR: In this article, a simple and robust estimator of regression coefficient β based on Kendall's rank correlation tau is studied, where the point estimator is the median of the set of slopes (Yj - Yi )/(tj-ti ) joining pairs of points with ti ≠ ti.

A Pacific interdecadal climate oscillation with impacts on salmon production

TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify a robust, recurring pattern of ocean-atmosphere climate variability centered over the midlatitude North Pacific basin over the past century, the amplitude of this climate pattern has varied irregularly at interannual-to-interdecadal timescales.
