Endovascular repair of traumatic thoracic aortic injury: clinical practice guidelines of the Society for Vascular Surgery.

TLDR
It is suggested that endovascular repair of thoracic aortic transection is associated with better survival and decreased risk of spinal cord ischemia, renal injury, graft, and systemic infections compared with open repair or nonoperative management.

Methodological quality and synthesis of case series and case reports.

TL;DR: A tool is proposed to evaluate the methodological quality of case reports and case series based on the domains of selection, ascertainment, causality and reporting and signalling questions to aid evidence-based practitioners and systematic reviewers in their assessment.

TL;DR: Although newer diagnostic techniques are being applied, at this time aortography remains the diagnostic standard; bypass techniques, which provide distal aortic perfusion, produced significantly lower paraplegia rates than the clamp and sew approach.

Meta-analysis of endovascular vs open repair for traumatic descending thoracic aortic rupture

TL;DR: Meta-analysis of retrospective cohort studies indicates that endovascular treatment of descending thoracic aortic trauma is an alternative to open repair and is associated with lower postoperative mortality and ischemic spinal cord complication rates.

Blunt aortic injury.

TL;DR: Blunt aortic injury occurs after sudden deceleration, and it is second only to head injury as the leading cause of death after automobile crashes.
