Fermi-liquid instabilities at magnetic quantum phase transitions
TLDR
In this article, the authors discuss the instabilities of the Fermi-liquid state of conduction electrons in metals with particular emphasis on magnetic quantum critical points, with the aim of assessing the validity of presently available theory.Abstract:
This review discusses instabilities of the Fermi-liquid state of conduction electrons in metals with particular emphasis on magnetic quantum critical points. Both the existing theoretical concepts and experimental data on selected materials are presented; with the aim of assessing the validity of presently available theory. After briefly recalling the fundamentals of Fermi-liquid theory, the local Fermi-liquid state in quantum impurity models and their lattice versions is described. Next, the scaling concepts applicable to quantum phase transitions are presented. The Hertz-Millis-Moriya theory of quantum phase transitions is described in detail. The breakdown of the latter is analyzed in several examples. In the final part experimental data on heavy-fermion materials and transition-metal alloys are reviewed and confronted with existing theory.read more

TL;DR: The realization of intrinsic unconventional superconductivity is reported—which cannot be explained by weak electron–phonon interactions—in a two-dimensional superlattice created by stacking two sheets of graphene that are twisted relative to each other by a small angle.

On the theory of superconductivity
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that a metal should be superconductive if a set of corners of a Brillouin zone is lying very near the Fermi surface, considered as a sphere, which limits the region in the momentum space completely filled with electrons.

Quantum Phase Transitions
TL;DR: In this paper, the role of pertubative renormalization group (RG) approaches and self-consistent renormalized spin fluctuation (SCR-SF) theories to understand the quantum-classical crossover in the vicinity of the quantum critical point with generalization to the Kondo effect in heavy-fermion systems is discussed.

Numerical renormalization group method for quantum impurity systems
TL;DR: In the early 1970s, Wilson developed the concept of a fully nonperturbative renormalization group transformation as mentioned in this paper, which gave for the first time the full crossover from the high temperature phase of a free spin to the low-temperature phase of completely screened spin.

TL;DR: In this article, a functional-integral approach to the dynamics of a two-state system coupled to a dissipative environment is presented, and an exact and general prescription for the reduction, under appropriate circumstances, of the problem of a system tunneling between two wells in the presence of dissipative environments to the spin-boson problem is given.

Localized Magnetic States in Metals
TL;DR: In this article, the conditions necessary in metals for the presence or absence of localized moments on solute ions containing inner shell electrons are analyzed, and a self-consistent Hartree-Fock treatment is applied to show that there is a sharp transition between the magnetic state and the nonmagnetic state, depending on the density of states of free electrons, the $s\ensuremath{-}d$ admixture matrix elements, and the Coulomb correlation integral in the $d$ shell.
