Essential oil analysis and antimicrobial activity of eight Stachys species from Greece.

TL;DR: The volatile composition of eight Stachys species has been studied and the essential oil of St. scardica has been proven most active against both bacteria and fungi.
Journal ArticleDOI

Gas chromatographic technologies for the analysis of essential oils.

TL;DR: This present review outlines the developmental nature of instrumental approaches to essential oil analysis using gas chromatography, and single-column and multi-dimensional analysis will be covered, as will sample handling or introduction techniques before the analysis step, where these techniques provide some measure of separation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of Scutellaria barbata.

TL;DR: The gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphlococcus aureus, were more sensitive to the oil than gram-negative bacteria and yeasts and the antimicrobial activity of the oil was evaluated against 17 microorganisms using disc diffusion and broth microdilution methods.

Antimicrobial potential and chemical composition of Eucalyptus globulus oil in liquid and vapour phase against food spoilage microorganisms

TL;DR: In this paper, the antimicrobial activity of Eucalyptus globulus essential oil was evaluated against 14 food spoilage microorganisms in liquid and vapour phase using agar dilution/well diffusion method and disc volatilisation method, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterisation of lavender essential oils by using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry with correlation of linear retention indices and comparison with comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography.

TL;DR: Nine samples of lavender essential oil were analysed by GC-MS using low-polarity and polar capillary columns and linear retention indices (LRI) were calculated for each component detected, finding more components could be found within the two-dimensional separation space.

A generalization of the retention index system including linear temperature programmed gas-liquid partition chromatography.

TL;DR: The equation given by Kovats for the calculation of the retention index in case of isothermal operation is transformed to a more general form to include also the case of linear temperature programmed operation and gives the same retention index for both ways of operation.

Gas‐chromatographische Charakterisierung organischer Verbindungen. Teil 1: Retentionsindices aliphatischer Halogenide, Alkohole, Aldehyde und Ketone

E. Kováts
TL;DR: In this article, a simple relation exists between the retention index of a compound on a non-polar stationary phase and its boiling point, which is defined as the ratio of the boiling point of the compound to its retention index.
Journal ArticleDOI

The identification of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons from gas-liquid chromatography retention data

TL;DR: In this article, the identification of sesquiterpenes by gas-liquid chromatography was evaluated, and the most reproducible form of GLC data was found to be the SESQUERPene data.
