TLDR
It was apparent that reduced growth was associated with increased enzyme activity, probably due to an enhanced protein synthesis, and the activity of catalase, peroxidase, IAA oxidase, and ascorbic acid oxidase incresed in response to lead addition.

Glycolate metabolism of three submersed aquatic angiosperms: Effect of heavy metals

TL;DR: The glycolate metabolism was stimulated in Potamogeton and inhibited in Hydrilla by most of the heavy metals used, and the inhibitory metals became stimulatory to this metabolism in combination treatments.

Effects of lead on root growth, cell division, and nucleolus of Allium cepa

TL;DR: It was observed that lead reduces root growth and causes mitotic irregularities, including c-mitosis, anaphase bridges, and chromosome stickiness, in root tip cells of Allium cepa.
Journal ArticleDOI

Toxicity of heavy metals in plants and animals and their uptake by magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles

TL;DR: In this article, Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles have emerged an ultimate choice of water cleaning adsorbent, which has lot of qualities like, ecofriendly, cost effective, easy use, regeneration and surface modification.

Lead: Understanding the Minimal Toxicity of Lead in Plants

TL;DR: The presence of indigenous lead in the earth's crust at concentrations averaging 16μg/g soil, its recent deposition near highways and other pollutant sources, and the knowledge that lead is highly toxic to various physiological processes have brought into focus over the last 15-20 years the question of the effects of lead on higher plants.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alteration in uptake and translocation of essential nutrients in cabbage by excess lead.

TL;DR: To observe the tolerance limit of lead phytotoxicity in cabbage, Golden Aker plants were grown in refined sand with complete nutrient solution for 41 days and the threshold of toxicity and toxicity values were 150 and 320 microg g-1 dry matter, respectively.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent

TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

Colorimetric estimation of indoleacetic acid.

TL;DR: During a study of the inactivation of IAA in aqueous solutions, it was frequently necessary to assay at one time many samples where the IAA concentrations were low, or where the degree of significance of small differences in concentrations between experimental unite required evaluation, so it was desirable to re-examine the ferric chloride-sulphuric acid procedure.

A Technique for the Measurement of Lead Tolerance in Plants

D. A. Wilkins
- 01 Jul 1957 -
TL;DR: It is shown that on similar waste tips in Scotland, A. tenuis is replaced by Festuca ovina and Deschampsia flexuosa, and a method has been worked out for the measurement of lead tolerance in F. ovina from soils of different lead contents.
