Growth and metabolism of germinating rice (Oryza sativa L.) seeds as influenced by toxic concentrations of lead

S. Mukherji, +1 more
- 01 Jan 1977 -
- Vol. 81, Iss: 1, pp 26-33
TLDR
It was apparent that reduced growth was associated with increased enzyme activity, probably due to an enhanced protein synthesis, and the activity of catalase, peroxidase, IAA oxidase, and ascorbic acid oxidase incresed in response to lead addition.

Detrimental Effects of Lead Phytotoxicity on Growth, Yield, and Metabolism of Rice

TL;DR: Mansoori et al. as mentioned in this paper showed that excessive lead (Pb) on rice (Oryza sativa) reduced the dry weight pronouncedly at harvest when the grain yield also decreased.
Journal ArticleDOI

Amelioration of lead and mercury effects on germination and rice seedling growth by antioxidants

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of PbCl2 and HgCl2 on rice (Oryza sativa L.) were investigated in the presence of two rice (Ratna and IR 36) cultivars, and the effects were more pronounced in tolerant cultivar IR 36 than in relatively susceptible cultivar Ratna.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lead toxicity effects on indole-3-ylacetic acid-induced cell elongation.

TL;DR: Experiments are described which show that lead becomes bound strongly to certain chemical substances involved in cell wall architecture, which appears to be linked with changes in the properties of the cell walls.
Journal ArticleDOI

The reactions of lupin roots on the presence of lead in the medium

TL;DR: The results seem to indicate that the central region of the meristem is in a way “protected” against the contact with this metal, which may be similar if not identical to the one in other types of cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Development of an efficient system for the separation of indole alkaloids by high performance liquid chromatography and its applications.

TL;DR: The optimised chromatographic conditions allowed the successful separation of 22 standard monoterpenoid indole alkaloids (including some isomers) and tryptamine in intergeneric somatic hybrid cell cultures of Rauvolfia serpentina x Rhazya stricta.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent

TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

Colorimetric estimation of indoleacetic acid.

TL;DR: During a study of the inactivation of IAA in aqueous solutions, it was frequently necessary to assay at one time many samples where the IAA concentrations were low, or where the degree of significance of small differences in concentrations between experimental unite required evaluation, so it was desirable to re-examine the ferric chloride-sulphuric acid procedure.

A Technique for the Measurement of Lead Tolerance in Plants

D. A. Wilkins
- 01 Jul 1957 -
TL;DR: It is shown that on similar waste tips in Scotland, A. tenuis is replaced by Festuca ovina and Deschampsia flexuosa, and a method has been worked out for the measurement of lead tolerance in F. ovina from soils of different lead contents.
