This new edition is divided into 15 units and each unit has its own divided chapters, altogether consisting of 85 chapters. Unit I is an introduction to physiology consisting of 3 chapters: The cell and general physiology. Unit II addresses membrane physiology, nerve, and muscle, consisting of 5 chapters. Unit VIII has 2 chapters addressing to aviation, space, and deep sea diving physiology. It has a section on hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Units IX, X, and XI concern the physiology of the nervous system consisting of 17 chapters which elegantly review different aspects of the human nervous system. All topics discussed are relevant to daily practicing physician/scientist. One example is the important role of thyroid hormone on the growth and development of the brain during fetal, neonatal, and infantile periods, which needs to be emphasized and remembered because of its grave consequences resulting in cretinism.read more

Handheld Device Adapted to Smartphone Cameras for the Measurement of Sodium Ion Concentrations at Saliva-Relevant Levels via Fluorescence.
Michelle Lipowicz,Antonio Garcia +1 more
TL;DR: The study found that smartphone cameras and post-image processing quantitated sodium ion concentration in water over the range of 0.5–10 mM, yielding best-fit regressions of the data that agree well with a data regression of microplate luminometer results.

Fever after intraventricular neuroendoscopic procedures in children
TL;DR: Fever frequently develops after intraventricular neuroendoscopic procedures in children and follows a rather predictable course, peaking the day of surgery and/or the next day, and rapidly subsiding thereafter.

Levetiracetam-Induced Skin Hyperpigmentation: An Extremely Rare Undesirable Side Effect
TL;DR: This is the first report of skin hyperpigmentation as a side effect of levetiracetam in the literature and the mechanism behind this rare complication is hypothesized.

Regional Patterns in Retinal Microvascular Network Geometry in Health and Disease.
TL;DR: In DR various regions of retinal microvascular network remodel in a different manner and to different extent, and the results show that in DR in healthy retinas, Λ and vessel density were lower in the M compared to the O, while the Db did not change.

Effect of fasting on cancer: A narrative review of scientific evidence
TL;DR: This review of recent findings at the interface of oncology and fasting metabolism recommends combining prolonged periodic fasting with a standard conventional therapeutic approach to promote cancer‐free survival, treatment efficacy and reduce side effects in cancer patients.
