This new edition is divided into 15 units and each unit has its own divided chapters, altogether consisting of 85 chapters. Unit I is an introduction to physiology consisting of 3 chapters: The cell and general physiology. Unit II addresses membrane physiology, nerve, and muscle, consisting of 5 chapters. Unit VIII has 2 chapters addressing to aviation, space, and deep sea diving physiology. It has a section on hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Units IX, X, and XI concern the physiology of the nervous system consisting of 17 chapters which elegantly review different aspects of the human nervous system. All topics discussed are relevant to daily practicing physician/scientist. One example is the important role of thyroid hormone on the growth and development of the brain during fetal, neonatal, and infantile periods, which needs to be emphasized and remembered because of its grave consequences resulting in cretinism.read more

A Cost-Effective, High-Performance, and Bio-inspired Pulse Sensor for Quantitative Assessment of Arterial Stiffness
TL;DR: The results indicate the arterial stiffness or aging can be quantitatively assessed by the low-cost but high-performance sensor, which is validated by a commercial sensor.

Combination Effect of The Extract of Avocado Leaf and Seed (Persea americana) on Level of Total Cholesterol, LDL, and HDL in Mice (Mus musculus) with Hypercholesterolemia
TL;DR: Administration of the combination including avocado leaf and seed extract (CALSE) in all treatment group proved to decrease total cholesterol and LDL level in mice although it was not statistically significant (p=0-420; p=0,882).

TL;DR: It was not possible to establish an interaction between aerobic exercise and concentration of BDNF and cortisol, which may actually be the result of the divergence of methods, such as type of exercises, duration of the sessions, and prescribed intensity and frequency of sessions.

Computational Modeling of Oxygen Transport in the Microcirculation: From an Experiment-Based Model to Theoretical Analyses
TL;DR: A new numerical model that includes oxygen diffusion and removal by organic molecules was devised to address uncertainties related to photochemical consumption of oxygen, and considerably improves the synergy between theoretical modeling and experimental studies in the context of microvascular oxygen transport.
