This new edition is divided into 15 units and each unit has its own divided chapters, altogether consisting of 85 chapters. Unit I is an introduction to physiology consisting of 3 chapters: The cell and general physiology. Unit II addresses membrane physiology, nerve, and muscle, consisting of 5 chapters. Unit VIII has 2 chapters addressing to aviation, space, and deep sea diving physiology. It has a section on hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Units IX, X, and XI concern the physiology of the nervous system consisting of 17 chapters which elegantly review different aspects of the human nervous system. All topics discussed are relevant to daily practicing physician/scientist. One example is the important role of thyroid hormone on the growth and development of the brain during fetal, neonatal, and infantile periods, which needs to be emphasized and remembered because of its grave consequences resulting in cretinism.read more

Renal effects of Anchomanes difformis crude extract in wistar rats.
Jacob Ataman E,MacDonald Idu +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the dietary effects of Anchomanes difformis on the kidneys of adult wistar rats, and found that the kidney toxicity was increased with excessive consumption of A.diffformis in the following proportions: 25:75 g, 50:50 g, and 75:25 g.

Physiological and Pathological Brain Activation in the Anesthetized Rat Produces Hemodynamic-Dependent Cortical Temperature Increases That Can Confound the BOLD fMRI Signal.
Samuel Harris,Luke Boorman,Devashish Das,Aneurin J. Kennerley,Paul S. Sharp,Chris Martin,Peter Redgrave,Theodore H. Schwartz,Jason Berwick +8 more
TL;DR: It is revealed that sensory stimulation, hypercapnia and recurrent acute seizures induce significant increases in cortical temperature that are preferentially correlated to changes in total hemoglobin concentration (Hbt), relative to cerebral blood flow and oxidative metabolism, and suggested that temperature increases, due to functional hyperemia, should be accounted for to ensure accurate interpretation of BOLD fMRI signals in pre-clinical neuroimaging studies.

Investigation of the effects of aging on the expression of aquaporin 1 and aquaporin 4 protein in heart tissue
Hikmet Bıçakçı,Mustafa Sarsilmaz,Seda Ocakli,Murat Uysal,Hilal Irmak Sapmaz,Tolgahan Acar,İsmet Demirtaş,Rauf Açıkgöz +7 more
TL;DR: Increased AQP1 and AQP4 levels in the heart tissue may be correlated with the maintenance of water and electrolytes balance, which decreases with aging, and one of the factors that increases the tendency of ischemia in elder people.

The Effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy on Cognitive Flexibility and Perceived Stress of Type II Diabetic patients
TL;DR: This paper aims to demonstrate the efforts towards in-situ applicability of EMMARM, which aims to provide real-time information about the response of the immune system to EMTs.
