This new edition is divided into 15 units and each unit has its own divided chapters, altogether consisting of 85 chapters. Unit I is an introduction to physiology consisting of 3 chapters: The cell and general physiology. Unit II addresses membrane physiology, nerve, and muscle, consisting of 5 chapters. Unit VIII has 2 chapters addressing to aviation, space, and deep sea diving physiology. It has a section on hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Units IX, X, and XI concern the physiology of the nervous system consisting of 17 chapters which elegantly review different aspects of the human nervous system. All topics discussed are relevant to daily practicing physician/scientist. One example is the important role of thyroid hormone on the growth and development of the brain during fetal, neonatal, and infantile periods, which needs to be emphasized and remembered because of its grave consequences resulting in cretinism.read more

Bursting synchronization in neuronal assemblies of scale-free networks
Adriane S. Reis,Kelly C. Iarosz,Kelly C. Iarosz,Kelly C. Iarosz,Fabiano A. S. Ferrari,Iberê L. Caldas,Antonio M. Batista,Antonio M. Batista,Ricardo L. Viana +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a synchronization suppression technique is employed through the application of an external signal based on the time-delayed mean field in certain areas of the neuronal network and the suppression of synchronization depends on the values of the time delay and intensity of the applied signal.

Virtual Patient Generation using Physiological Models through a Compressed Latent Parameterization
TL;DR: This work employs a practically important case study on the modeling of cardiovascular responses to hemorrhage and fluid resuscitation in order to demonstrate that subject-specific characteristics observed in a dataset can be alternatively represented within a highly compressed latent parameter space without significant losses in calibration error for each real patient.

The potential anticoagulant property of Caulerpa lentillifera crude extract
Althea R. Arenajo,Adrian P. Ybañez,Maria Maichol P Ababan,Charlotte E. Villajuan,May Rose M Lasam,Chiqui P. Young,Julie Lynn A. Reyes +6 more
TL;DR: The study showed that C. lentillifera extract may have a potential anticoagulant property due to its component SP, and showed a positive significant correlation (multiple R = 0.9450, R2 =0.8931) implying dose-dependent anticoAGulant potential.

Slow-paced breathing and cardiac vagal activity : influence on stress regulation, sleep, and cognitive executive performance
TL;DR: SPB is a technique that is free, non-invasive, easy to implement, and with little side effects, which makes it an appropriate intervention to recommend to address a large range of self-regulation phenomena.

Serum concentrations of lipid‐soluble vitamins in dogs with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency treated with pancreatic enzymes
TL;DR: Altered homeostasis of lipid‐soluble vitamins is present in dogs with EPI and sEPI, despite enzyme replacement therapy, and additional studies are needed to determine the clinical relevance of these findings and the therapeutic potential of lipid-soluble vitamin supplementation.
