This new edition is divided into 15 units and each unit has its own divided chapters, altogether consisting of 85 chapters. Unit I is an introduction to physiology consisting of 3 chapters: The cell and general physiology. Unit II addresses membrane physiology, nerve, and muscle, consisting of 5 chapters. Unit VIII has 2 chapters addressing to aviation, space, and deep sea diving physiology. It has a section on hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Units IX, X, and XI concern the physiology of the nervous system consisting of 17 chapters which elegantly review different aspects of the human nervous system. All topics discussed are relevant to daily practicing physician/scientist. One example is the important role of thyroid hormone on the growth and development of the brain during fetal, neonatal, and infantile periods, which needs to be emphasized and remembered because of its grave consequences resulting in cretinism.read more

Stereoselective Pharmacokinetics of Ketoprofen After Oral Administration of Modified-Release Formulations in Caucasian Healthy Subjects
Marianela Lorier,Laura Magallanes,Manuel Ibarra,Natalia Guevara,Marta Vázquez,Pietro Fagiolino +5 more
TL;DR: R-to-S conversion rate could be mainly associated with several passages of the drug through the intestinal mucosa and lead to a higher oral bioavailability of the Test formulation and a higher reabsorption of both ketoprofen isomers in this sex.

Inter-operator Reliability of Magnetic Resonance Image-Based Computational Fluid Dynamics Prediction of Cerebrospinal Fluid Motion in the Cervical Spine
Bryn A. Martin,Theresia I. Yiallourou,Soroush Heidari Pahlavian,Suraj Thyagaraj,Alexander C. Bunck,Francis Loth,Daniel B. Sheffer,Jan Robert Kröger,Nikolaos Stergiopulos +8 more
TL;DR: Results show a high degree of inter-operator reliability for MRI-based CFD simulations of CSF flow in the cervical spine for healthy subjects and a lower degree of reliability for patients with Type I Chiari malformation.

Generating eating plans for athletes using the particle swarm optimization
TL;DR: The automatic generation of optimal eating plans for athletes is introduced as an optimization problem, where particle swarm optimization is taken as the problem solver and the first practical experiments showed that this solution is very promising.

Deep convolutional encoder-decoder for myelin and axon segmentation
TL;DR: A fully automatic method for segmenting myelin and axon from microscopy images of excised mouse spinal cord based on Convolutional Neural Networks and deep convolutional encoder-decoder is proposed.

Optimizing the methodology for measuring supraclavicular skin temperature using infrared thermography; implications for measuring brown adipose tissue activity in humans.
Tahniyah Haq,Justin D. Crane,Sarah Kanji,Elizabeth Gunn,Mark A. Tarnopolsky,Hertzel C. Gerstein,Gregory R. Steinberg,Katherine M. Morrison +7 more
TL;DR: Acclimation at 32 °C followed by cold generates a reproducible change in supraclavicular skin temperature measurable by thermal imaging that may be indicative of BAT metabolic activity.
