The influence of polyhydroxylated compounds on a hydrated phospholipid bilayer: a molecular dynamics study

TL;DR: Molecular dynamics simulations are used to investigate the interaction of the polyhydroxylated cosolutes (CSLs) methanol (MET), ethylene glycol (ETG), glycerol (GLY), glucose (GLU) and trehalose (TRH) with a hydrated phospholipid bilayer in the liquid–crystalline phase at 325 K.
Journal ArticleDOI

Infrared versus light scattering techniques to monitor the gel to liquid crystal phase transition in lipid membranes

TL;DR: In this paper, Fourier transform infrared, Raman and Brillouin spectroscopy have been used to study lipid phase behavior of hydrated as well as dried multilamellar l-α-phosphatidylcholine assemblies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Differential Calcium Signaling by Cone Specific Guanylate Cyclase-Activating Proteins from the Zebrafish Retina

TL;DR: Zebrafish GCAP isoforms showed differences in their Ca2+/Mg2+-dependent conformational changes and in the Ca2-dependent monomer-dimer equilibrium, indicating a Ca2+.-sensor system in zebrafish rod and cone cells supporting a Ca1+-relay model of differential zGCAP operation in these cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigating the Role of Islet Cytoarchitecture in Its Oscillation Using a New β-Cell Cluster Model

TL;DR: A new hexagonal closest packing (HCP) cell cluster model is developed that captures more accurately the real islet cell organization than the simple cubic packing (SCP) cluster that is conventionally used and suggests that the bursting characteristics of a β-cell cluster depend quantitatively on its architecture in a non-linear fashion.
