Journal ArticleDOI

EEG phase synchronization during emotional response to positive and negative film stimuli

TL;DR: The SI can be successfully applied for studying the dynamic cooperation between cortical areas during emotion responses and demonstrated an overall increase during emotional stimulation and, in particular, during sadness, which yielded a pattern involving a large exchange of information among frontal channels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Accelerated formation of cubic phases in phosphatidylethanolamine dispersions.

TL;DR: By means of x-ray diffraction it is shown that several sodium salts and the disaccharides sucrose and trehalose strongly accelerate the formation of cubic phases in phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) dispersions upon temperature cycling through the lamellar liquid crystalline-inverted hexagonal (Lalpha-HII) phase transition.
Journal ArticleDOI

A specific interaction between the NBD of the ABC-transporter HlyB and a C-terminal fragment of its transport substrate haemolysin A.

TL;DR: A model for an early stage of initiation of secretion in vivo is proposed, in which the NBD of HlyB, specifically recognizes the C terminus of the transport substrate, HlyA, and where secretion is initiated by subsequent displacement of HlA from HlB by ATP.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental and Monte Carlo Simulation Studies of the Thermodynamics of Polyethyleneglycol Chains Grafted to Lipid Bilayers

TL;DR: The combined results of the experimental and simulation studies conclude that the grafted PEG chains exist in a "mushroom" regime throughout the range of polymer densities examined experimentally and that the diminished affinity of binding of acylated-P EG conjugates to bilayers containing PE-PEGs results from occlusion of the surface area accessible for conjugate binding by the mobile PE- PEG polymer chains.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reflections on colourful ommatidia of butterfly eyes

TL;DR: The eye shine of butterflies from a large number of ommatidia was observed with a modified epi-illumination apparatus equipped with an objective lens of large numerical aperture to indicate the presence of red-sensitive photoreceptors.
