Preventing disease through healthy environments: a global assessment of the burden of disease from environmental risks

TL;DR: The main message emerging from this new comprehensive global assessment is that premature death and disease can be prevented through healthier environments – and to a significant degree.

Cobalt toxicity in humans—a review of the potential sources and systemic health effects

TL;DR: Future research should focus on longitudinal studies in the clinical setting of MoM hip implant patients to further elucidate the dose-response discrepancies, and monitoring of the free fraction of Co2+ might be advisable for future risk assessment.

Waste Printed Circuit Boards recycling: an extensive assessment of current status

TL;DR: More than 150 related articles mostly published in the last 15 years and covering the broad areas like characterization of waste printed circuit boards, health hazards associated with the processing and the different routes of recycling have been analyzed to provide a comprehensive overview on this topic as discussed by the authors.

Association of Prenatal Exposure to Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers and Infant Birth Weight

TL;DR: Findings were diminished slightly and were no longer statistically significant when maternal weight gain was included in the models, and PBDE congeners were not associated with birth length, head circumference, or gestational duration.

Carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in umbilical cord blood of human neonates from Guiyu, China.

TL;DR: It is concluded that maternal PAH exposure results in fetal accumulation of toxic PAHs, and that such prenatal exposure correlates with adverse effects on neonatal health.

Prenatal lead exposure, delta-aminolevulinic acid, and schizophrenia.

TL;DR: The hypothesis that environmental lead exposure may be associated with schizophrenia is tested using archived serum samples from a cohort of live births enrolled between 1959 and 1966 in Oakland, California, and suggests that the effects of prenatal exposure to lead and/or elevated delta-ALA may extend into later life and must be further investigated as risk factors for adult psychiatric diseases.

Genotoxic evaluation of welders occupationally exposed to chromium and nickel using the Comet and micronucleus assays.

TL;DR: It is suggested that chronic occupational exposure to Cr and Ni during welding could lead to increased levels of DNA damage, which could affect human health risk from exposure.
