Image change detection algorithms: a systematic survey

TLDR
In this paper, the authors present a systematic survey of the common processing steps and core decision rules in modern change detection algorithms, including significance and hypothesis testing, predictive models, the shading model, and background modeling.
Abstract
Detecting regions of change in multiple images of the same scene taken at different times is of widespread interest due to a large number of applications in diverse disciplines, including remote sensing, surveillance, medical diagnosis and treatment, civil infrastructure, and underwater sensing. This paper presents a systematic survey of the common processing steps and core decision rules in modern change detection algorithms, including significance and hypothesis testing, predictive models, the shading model, and background modeling. We also discuss important preprocessing methods, approaches to enforcing the consistency of the change mask, and principles for evaluating and comparing the performance of change detection algorithms. It is hoped that our classification of algorithms into a relatively small number of categories will provide useful guidance to the algorithm designer.

S2Looking: A Satellite Side-Looking Dataset for Building Change Detection.

TL;DR: S2Looking as mentioned in this paper is a building change detection dataset that contains large-scale side-looking satellite images captured at varying off-nadir angles and provides two label maps to separately indicate the newly built and demolished building regions for each sample in the dataset.

Camera pose estimation using Visual Servoing for aerial video change detection

TL;DR: This paper introduces a formulation that relates image registration with the poses of a moving camera observing a 3D plane and combines this formulation with Newton's algorithm in order to estimate camera poses in a given aerial video.

Object-based land-cover change detection applied to Brazilian seasonal savannahs using geostatistical features

TL;DR: In this paper, a new method for remote-sensing land-use/land-cover (LULC) change detection is proposed to eliminate the effects of forest phenology on classification results.

High-resolution mapping of river and estuary areas by using unmanned aerial and surface platforms

TL;DR: This work integrates the images acquired by an UAV characterized by a GSD of 0.03m with an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) that collects images of the river from different point of view enhanced by an RGB-D sensor that fuses the benefit of pixel and object based approaches mapping the changes over a well defined temporal horizon.

Distinctive Image Features from Scale-Invariant Keypoints

TL;DR: This paper presents a method for extracting distinctive invariant features from images that can be used to perform reliable matching between different views of an object or scene and can robustly identify objects among clutter and occlusion while achieving near real-time performance.

Stochastic Relaxation, Gibbs Distributions, and the Bayesian Restoration of Images

TL;DR: The analogy between images and statistical mechanics systems is made and the analogous operation under the posterior distribution yields the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimate of the image given the degraded observations, creating a highly parallel ``relaxation'' algorithm for MAP estimation.
