Image change detection algorithms: a systematic survey

TLDR
In this paper, the authors present a systematic survey of the common processing steps and core decision rules in modern change detection algorithms, including significance and hypothesis testing, predictive models, the shading model, and background modeling.
Abstract
Detecting regions of change in multiple images of the same scene taken at different times is of widespread interest due to a large number of applications in diverse disciplines, including remote sensing, surveillance, medical diagnosis and treatment, civil infrastructure, and underwater sensing. This paper presents a systematic survey of the common processing steps and core decision rules in modern change detection algorithms, including significance and hypothesis testing, predictive models, the shading model, and background modeling. We also discuss important preprocessing methods, approaches to enforcing the consistency of the change mask, and principles for evaluating and comparing the performance of change detection algorithms. It is hoped that our classification of algorithms into a relatively small number of categories will provide useful guidance to the algorithm designer.

Differential MRI analysis for quantification of low grade glioma growth

TL;DR: Results from the clinical evaluation showed that millimetric precision on a specific volumetric radius growth index measurement can be obtained automatically with the proposed differential analysis, enabling quantification of low-grade glioma growth, around the borders of an initial segmentation.

Unsupervised change detection in Sar images based on frequency difference and a modified fuzzy c -means clustering

TL;DR: This article proposes an unsupervised change detection approach based on frequency difference in wavelet domain and a modified fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering algorithm and incorporates weighted local information into the FCM to reduce the influence of speckle noise.

NeuronGrowth, a software for automatic quantification of neurite and filopodial dynamics from time-lapse sequences of digital images.

TL;DR: NeuronGrowth, a software for the automatic quantification of extension and retraction of neurites and filopodia, from time‐lapse sequences of two‐dimensional digital micrographs, required less user participation and had a better time performance when compared with the other software packages.

Land Cover Change Detection Using Autocorrelation Analysis on MODIS Time-Series Data: Detection of New Human Settlements in the Gauteng Province of South Africa

TL;DR: The proposed method for detecting new settlement developments in areas that are typically covered by natural vegetation using 500 m MODIS time-series satellite data is a per pixel change alarm that uses the temporal autocorrelation to infer a change index which yields a change or no-change decision after thresholding.

Change Detection of Remote Sensing Images with Semi-supervised Multilayer Perceptron

TL;DR: A context-sensitive change-detection technique based on semi-supervised learning with multilayer perceptron is proposed here, which identifies a few initial labeled patterns without using ground truth information.

Distinctive Image Features from Scale-Invariant Keypoints

TL;DR: This paper presents a method for extracting distinctive invariant features from images that can be used to perform reliable matching between different views of an object or scene and can robustly identify objects among clutter and occlusion while achieving near real-time performance.

Stochastic Relaxation, Gibbs Distributions, and the Bayesian Restoration of Images

TL;DR: The analogy between images and statistical mechanics systems is made and the analogous operation under the posterior distribution yields the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimate of the image given the degraded observations, creating a highly parallel ``relaxation'' algorithm for MAP estimation.
