Image change detection algorithms: a systematic survey

TLDR
In this paper, the authors present a systematic survey of the common processing steps and core decision rules in modern change detection algorithms, including significance and hypothesis testing, predictive models, the shading model, and background modeling.
Abstract
Detecting regions of change in multiple images of the same scene taken at different times is of widespread interest due to a large number of applications in diverse disciplines, including remote sensing, surveillance, medical diagnosis and treatment, civil infrastructure, and underwater sensing. This paper presents a systematic survey of the common processing steps and core decision rules in modern change detection algorithms, including significance and hypothesis testing, predictive models, the shading model, and background modeling. We also discuss important preprocessing methods, approaches to enforcing the consistency of the change mask, and principles for evaluating and comparing the performance of change detection algorithms. It is hoped that our classification of algorithms into a relatively small number of categories will provide useful guidance to the algorithm designer.

Adaptive detection and localization of moving objects in image sequences

TL;DR: This paper addresses two important problems in motion analysis: the detection of moving objects and their localization and the labeling problem, which is solved using either iterated conditional modes (ICM) or highest confidence first (HCF) algorithms.

Technique to measure 3D work-of-fracture of concrete in compression

TL;DR: In this paper, a high-resolution 3D scanning technique called X-ray microtomography was applied to measure internal damage and crack growth in small mortar cylinders loaded in compression, and the results indicate that basic fracture mechanics principles may be applied to concrete in compression; however, they must think in terms of 3D multiple crack systems rather than traditional 2D single crack systems.

Digital change detection with the aid of multiresolution wavelet analysis

TL;DR: The preliminary findings of a new approach to deal with misregistration effects on change detection results are presented, where changes of interest were pinpointed successfully without the necessity of accurate spatial registration or radiometric rectification while differences not related to land cover changes were bypassed.
