Inclusion complexation of tolbutamide with β-cyclodextrin and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin

TLDR
In this article, the dissolution rate of tolbutamide/cyclodextrin complexes was investigated and compared with those of the physical mixtures and pure drug, and it was shown that dissolution of the inclusion complexes was much more rapid than the pure drug.
About

Strategies to Address Low Drug Solubility in Discovery and Development

TL;DR: The article provides an integrated and contemporary discussion of current approaches to solubility and dissolution enhancement but has been deliberately structured as a series of stand-alone sections to allow also directed access to a specific technology where required.

Thermal analysis of cyclodextrins and their inclusion compounds

TL;DR: A review of the literature concerning the thermal properties of natural and semisynthetic cyclodextrins and their inclusion compounds can be found in this article, where the limitations and advantages of the applications of thermal analyses concerning water- and drug-cyclodextrin interactions are also discussed.

Physicochemical and release characterisation of garlic oil-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes

TL;DR: In this article, the physicochemical and release characterisation of inclusion complexes of garlic oil in β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) was investigated by different analytical techniques including Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffractometry.

Enhanced solubility and dissolution rate of itraconazole by a solid dispersion technique.

TL;DR: Solid dispersion particles of itraconazole were prepared with various pH-independent and -dependent hydrophilic polymers and were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, powder X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy to improve the solubility and dissolution rate of a poorly water-soluble drug.

Cyclodextrin Inclusion Compounds in Research and Industry

TL;DR: As cyclodextrins catalyze several chemical reactions they and their functionalized derivatives provide useful enzyme models and can be used to advantage in the production of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, foodstuffs, and toilet articles.

Cyclodextrins in drug carrier systems.

TL;DR: The works published thus far apparently indicate that the inclusion phenomena of cyclodextrin analogs may allow the rational design of drug formulation and that the combination of molecular encapsulation with other carrier systems will become a very effective and valuable method for the development of a new drug delivery system in the near future.

Hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin: preparation and characterization; effects on solubility of drugs

TL;DR: In this paper, conditions for condensation of β-cyclodextrin with propylene oxide were found which give preparations of hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin with a narrow and symmetrical distribution of the degree of substitution.
