TLDR
In this paper, a Hall-Petch-type relationship between the dynamic recrystallized grain size and the Zener-Hollomon parameter was established, and microhardness tests showed that the hardness decreased with increasing energy input.

Effect of ultrasonic welding parameters on microstructure and mechanical properties of dissimilar joints

TL;DR: In this article, an optimization of ultrasonic spot welding parameters for joining 3003 Aluminum alloy with 304 Stainless steel was performed at various clamping pressures and energy levels for investigating its effect on microstructure, mechanical properties and bond quality of the weld.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of zinc interlayer on ultrasonic spot welded aluminum-to-copper joints

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of the Zn interlayer on the micro-structural and mechanical properties of weld joints was analyzed using X-ray spectroscopy and diffraction scans, and it was determined that welds with a Zninterlayer placed in-between the faying surfaces of the base metals formed a composite-like eutectic structure of Al and Al 2 Cu at the center and Al-Zn and CuZn 5 at the edges of the welded joint.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanism of weld formation during very-high-power ultrasonic additive manufacturing of Al alloy 6061

TL;DR: In this paper, the microstructures of Al alloy 6061 subjected to very high-power ultrasonic additive manufacturing were systematically examined to understand the underlying ultrasonic welding mechanism, and it was found that the weld interface between the metal tapes consisted of fine, equiaxed grains resulting from recrystallization, which was driven by simple shear deformation along the ultrasonically vibrating direction of the tape surface.

Lap shear strength and fatigue behavior of friction stir spot welded dissimilar magnesium-to-aluminum joints with adhesive

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the lap shear strength and fatigue properties of friction stir spot welded (FSSWed) dissimilar AZ31B-H24 Mg alloy and Al alloy (AA) 5754-O in three combinations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improvements of strength and ductility in aluminum alloy joints via rapid cooling during friction stir welding

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the tensile properties and strain hardening behavior of a friction stir welded (FSWed) thick AA2219 aluminum alloy under optimized welding parameters and varying cooling conditions (air cooling and water cooling) with three slices through the plate thickness.
