Integrated multi-trophic aquaculture of red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) and sea cucumber (Holothuria scabra): Assessing bioremediation and life-cycle impacts

TLDR
The methodology defined here can be a powerful tool to predict the magnitude of environmental benefits that can be expected from new and complex production systems and to show potential impact transfer between spatial scales.

Integrated multitrophic aquaculture (IMTA) as an environmentally friendly system for sustainable aquaculture: functionality, species, and application of biofloc technology (BFT)

TL;DR: This study reviews the significance of IMTA systems, potential target species for cultivation, the relationship between BFT and IMTA, total suspended solids control, the economics of IMta farming, and the recent findings in these fields.

Life cycle assessment of aquaculture systems: Does burden shifting occur with an increase in production intensity?

TL;DR: The comparative analysis indicated there was a possible shift from local to global impacts with a progression from extensive to intensive systems, if mitigation strategies were not performed, and it is critical to consider both of these criteria in conjunction with LCA results when developing aquaculture systems.

DEXiAqua, a Model to Assess the Sustainability of Aquaculture Systems: Methodological Development and Application to a French Salmon Farm

TL;DR: In this article, a multi-attribute model called DEXiAqua was developed to assess the sustainability of aquaculture systems via indicators from technical domains and reference methods selected and organized by the partners in the SIMTAP project.

Life cycle assessment of tiger puffer (Takifugu rubripes) farming: A case study in Dalian, China.

TL;DR: In this article , the first life cycle assessment (LCA) of tiger puffer land-sea relay strategy in Dalian, China is presented, and the following four stages are considered: seed rearing, deep-sea cage farming-1, industrial recirculating aquaculture, and deepsea cage Farming-2. The LCA software GaBi 10.5 academy version and CML-IA-Jan 2016-world method were used to calculate the environmental impacts.

Using the Dynamic Energy Budget theory to evaluate the bioremediation potential of the polychaete Hediste diversicolor in an integrated multi-trophic aquaculture system

TL;DR: An existing Dynamic Energy Budget model of H. diversicolor was used to predict the ragworm's metabolic processes in various environmental conditions and to estimate its bioremediation capacity in an aquaculture context, finding that the DEB model was able to correctly predict the experimental data.

Solving Differential Equations in R: Package deSolve

TL;DR: Comparisons demonstrate that, if the use of loops is avoided, R code can efficiently integrate problems comprising several thousands of state variables, and the same problem may be solved from 2 to more than 50 times faster by using compiled code compared to an implementation using only R code.

Nutrient Limitation of Net Primary Production in Marine Ecosystems

TL;DR: There is a feeling among many limnologists and environmental engineers who study lakes that marine ecosystems also probably are phosphorus limited, and environmental management agencies often assume that phosphorus limitation in marine ecosystems is the rule.

Dynamic Energy and Mass Budgets in Biological Systems

TL;DR: A comparison of species and living together and the effects of non-essential compounds and multivariate DEB models shows the need to consider the role of language in the acquisition and use of energy.
