Interlaminar Stresses in Composite Laminates Under Uniform Axial Extension

TLDR
In this article, the response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory, and finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region.
Abstract
The response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory. Finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region. Results for material properties typical of a high modulus graphite-epoxy composite material system are presented which explain the mechanism of shear transfer within a symmetric laminate. In addition, results of this work are compared to those given in a recent approximate formulation.

A composite beam theory for modeling nonlinear shear behavior

TL;DR: In this paper, a variational asymptotic beam model is developed for the purpose of modeling physically nonlinear elastic behaviors of a material point in the structure, which are essential to the further analyses which are beyond the linear elasticity regime, for example, the progressive damage and failure.

Dynamic Transverse Debonding of a Single Fiber

TL;DR: By integrating a Kolsky tension bar along with a high-speed x-ray phase contrast imaging method and a high speed optical camera, high strain rate debonding processes of an opaque composite composed of a single S-2 fiber and SC-15 epoxy resin is recorded in real time and analyzed as discussed by the authors.

Failure analysis of a hybrid composite structural beam

TL;DR: In this article, a global-local finite element stress analysis is utilized to examine the possibility of compression failure and a successive sub-modeling approach that allows detailed analysis of the inter-laminar stresses in regions of high stress gradients, including free edges and tapered laminates.

The Semi-Infinite Strip Problem in the Mechanics of Composite Materials

TL;DR: In this article, the boundary value problem of a semi-infinite strip with symmetric tractions on the transverse edges and normal loads on the end is investigated and the singular behavior in the slope of the end vertical displacement at the corner points is found.

Interlaminar Shear in Laminated Composites Under Generalized Plane Stress

TL;DR: In this article, an analysis of interlaminar shear stresses is performed for a laminate under generalized plane stresses, where the laminate is modeled as a set of anisotropic layers separated by isotropic adhesive layers.
