Interlaminar Stresses in Composite Laminates Under Uniform Axial Extension

TLDR
In this article, the response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory, and finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region.
Abstract
The response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory. Finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region. Results for material properties typical of a high modulus graphite-epoxy composite material system are presented which explain the mechanism of shear transfer within a symmetric laminate. In addition, results of this work are compared to those given in a recent approximate formulation.

Contribution to the Fracture Analysis of Composite Materials

TL;DR: In this article, the case of a cracked ply embedded in a stratified composite is examined, with given assumptions on the toughness of the components and of the interface, the crack can propagate to become a delamination crack (i.e. lying at the interface between the components).

Failure, Cracks, Fracture, Fatigue, Delamination, Adhesion, and Cohesion

TL;DR: In this paper, the Griffith theory, surface energy, and stress intensity factors for fracture in modes I, II and III are described, as well as several failure criteria and necessary elements of the fracture mechanics, such as cracks.

An efficient semi-analytical finite fracture mechanics approach for the prediction of interlaminar crack initiation in composite laminates.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a semi-analytical scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM) to predict interlaminar crack onset in composite laminates using FFM.

Determination of Interlaminar Stress Components in a Pretwisted Composite Strip by VAM

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed an efficient analytical approach to obtain the 3D elasticity solutions by using recovery relations through 1-D analyses, which is based upon the stress distribution from more appropriate, sophisticated and simple polynomials on the equilibrium equation of elasticity.

Interlaminar Shear in Laminated Composites Under Generalized Plane Stress

TL;DR: In this article, an analysis of interlaminar shear stresses is performed for a laminate under generalized plane stresses, where the laminate is modeled as a set of anisotropic layers separated by isotropic adhesive layers.
