Interlaminar Stresses in Composite Laminates Under Uniform Axial Extension

TLDR
In this article, the response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory, and finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region.
Abstract
The response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory. Finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region. Results for material properties typical of a high modulus graphite-epoxy composite material system are presented which explain the mechanism of shear transfer within a symmetric laminate. In addition, results of this work are compared to those given in a recent approximate formulation.

Residual thermal and moisture influences on the strain energy release rate analysis of edge delamination

TL;DR: In this article, a laminated plate theory analysis is developed to calculate the strain energy release rate associated with edge delamination growth in a composite laminate, which includes the contribution of residual thermal and moisture stresses to strain energy released.

Meso-scale failure modeling of single layer triaxial braided composite using finite element method

TL;DR: In this paper, a meso-scale finite element (FE) model of a triaxial braided composite is generated based on realistic unit cell dimensions and fiber bundle geometry parameters, and the failure mechanisms are studied using the field strain and stress contours.

Non-linear dynamic thermo-mechanical buckling analysis of the imperfect sandwich plates based on a generalized three-dimensional high-order global–local plate theory

TL;DR: A generalized high-order global-local theory that satisfies all the kinematic and transverse stress continuity conditions at the interfaces of the layers, is proposed to investigate dynamic buckling of imperfect sandwich plates subjected to thermo-mechanical loads.

Exact Moduli of Anisotropic Laminates

TL;DR: The effective laminate constitutive equations as discussed by the authors define the geometric response caused by loads exerted on the laminate, as distinguished from the conventional implication of an elastic constitutive equation, namely the stress-strain relationship of an infinitesimal material element.

Numerical evaluation of three-dimensional scarf repairs in carbon-epoxy structures

TL;DR: In this article, a numerical study of the tensile behavior of three-dimensional scarf repairs in carbon-epoxy structures, using a ductile adhesive, was performed in ABAQUS® and Cohesive Zone Modelling was used for the simulation of damage onset and growth in the adhesive layer.

Interlaminar Shear in Laminated Composites Under Generalized Plane Stress

TL;DR: In this article, an analysis of interlaminar shear stresses is performed for a laminate under generalized plane stresses, where the laminate is modeled as a set of anisotropic layers separated by isotropic adhesive layers.
