Interlaminar Stresses in Composite Laminates Under Uniform Axial Extension

TLDR
In this article, the response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory, and finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region.
Abstract
The response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory. Finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region. Results for material properties typical of a high modulus graphite-epoxy composite material system are presented which explain the mechanism of shear transfer within a symmetric laminate. In addition, results of this work are compared to those given in a recent approximate formulation.

A twofold strength and toughness criterion for the onset of free-edge shear delamination in angle-ply laminates

TL;DR: In this article, a generalised plane strain model was used to predict free edge delamination in composite structures. But the results were limited to ( ± 10 ) s, ( ± 20 ) s ) laminates, where the interfacial fracture energy and interlaminar shear strength are known.

XFEM fracture analysis of composites

TL;DR: The first reference text for the extended finite element method (XFEM) for fracture analysis of composite structures and materials is as discussed by the authors, which describes the basics and developments of the new XFEM approach to fracture analysis.

Thermal residual stresses in plates and coatings composed of multi-layered and functionally graded materials

TL;DR: In this paper, thermal residual stresses in multi-layered and compositionally graded plates and coatings were analyzed and it was found that the distribution and magnitude of residual stresses within a plate can be adjusted by controlling the compositional gradient and selecting a proper combination of ceramic and metal constituents.

Effect of Stacking Sequence and Lay-Up Angle on Free Edge Stresses Around a Hole in a Laminated Plate Under Tension

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the stress behavior around a circular hole in a laminated plate using a three dimensional finite element stress analysis and found that the inter laminar normal stress distribution around the free edge of the circular hole and the effects of changes in stacking sequence and lay-up angle.

Delamination of tapered composite structures

TL;DR: In this article, the average stress concept is applied to out-of-plane stresses from a three-dimensional finite element model to predict strength based on ply failure and interply resin failure.

Interlaminar Shear in Laminated Composites Under Generalized Plane Stress

TL;DR: In this article, an analysis of interlaminar shear stresses is performed for a laminate under generalized plane stresses, where the laminate is modeled as a set of anisotropic layers separated by isotropic adhesive layers.
