Interlaminar Stresses in Composite Laminates Under Uniform Axial Extension
R. Byron Pipes,N. J. Pagano +1 more
TLDR
In this article, the response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory, and finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region.Abstract:
The response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory. Finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region. Results for material properties typical of a high modulus graphite-epoxy composite material system are presented which explain the mechanism of shear transfer within a symmetric laminate. In addition, results of this work are compared to those given in a recent approximate formulation.read more

Damage resistance of single lap adhesive composite joints by transverse ice impact
Hwun Park,Hyonny Kim +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors focused on the high velocity transverse impact of composite joints by hailstones and performed impact tests with ice spheres onto composite lap joint specimens to determine the failure threshold energy describing damage initiation, and investigate the modes of damage.

An Assessment of the Interlaminar Stress Problem in Laminated Composites
Abstract: A review and assessment of the interlaminar delamination problem com mon to layered composite materials is presented. The work covers calcula tion of interlaminar stresses from a homogeneous and microstructural material viewpoint as well as background information on the singularity problem. The observation of edge delamination and experimental efforts are discussed together with recent fracture mechanics studies. The conclu sions provides an assessment of the problem and suggestions for future investigation.

Rached El Fatmi,Hatem Zenzri +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the exact beam theory is used to calculate the characteristic operators involved in beam's structural behavior and the Saint Venant solution is derived from the solutions of six characteristic beam elasticity problems.
