Interlaminar Stresses in Composite Laminates Under Uniform Axial Extension

TLDR
In this article, the response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory, and finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region.
Abstract
The response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory. Finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region. Results for material properties typical of a high modulus graphite-epoxy composite material system are presented which explain the mechanism of shear transfer within a symmetric laminate. In addition, results of this work are compared to those given in a recent approximate formulation.

A three-dimensional hierarchic finite element-based computational framework for the analysis of composite laminates

TL;DR: A three-dimensional hierarchic finite element-based computational framework developed for the investigation of inter-laminar stresses and displacements in composite laminates of finite width allows to change the order of approximation both locally and globally without modifying the underlying finite element mesh leading to very accurate results for relatively coarse meshes.

TL;DR: In this paper, the elasticity problems of the singularity at the interface of a two-material wedge, whose exact solution is known and for which computations are compared, and at the free edge of (± 45)s laminates are discussed by means of finite elements.

Local stresses in the reinforced plate with orthogonal sytems of fibers

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the local stresses corresponding to the basic macroscopic deformations of a reinforced plate, namely, in-plane strain/shift and bending/torsion, and showed that the boundary layer thickness is less than the thickness of one structural layer.

Effect of Load History on Fatigue Life.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of environmental and geometrical perturbations on the fatigue life of graphite/epoxy laminates have been investigated and the results in a manner such that an expanded foundation is laid for formulating fatigue life models based on knowledge of failure mechanisms.

Interlaminar Shear in Laminated Composites Under Generalized Plane Stress

TL;DR: In this article, an analysis of interlaminar shear stresses is performed for a laminate under generalized plane stresses, where the laminate is modeled as a set of anisotropic layers separated by isotropic adhesive layers.
