Interlaminar Stresses in Composite Laminates Under Uniform Axial Extension

TLDR
In this article, the response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory, and finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region.
Abstract
The response of a finite-width composite laminate under uniform axial strain is treated through the application of classical elasticity theory. Finite-difference solution techniques are employed to obtain solutions for stresses and displacements throughout the region. Results for material properties typical of a high modulus graphite-epoxy composite material system are presented which explain the mechanism of shear transfer within a symmetric laminate. In addition, results of this work are compared to those given in a recent approximate formulation.

Interlaminar stress mixed finite element analysis of unsymmetrically laminated composite plates

TL;DR: In this paper, an interlaminar stress mixed finite element method based on local high-order lamination theory is presented, where the nodal unknowns in this C0 isoparametric element are three displacements, three rotations, and five higher-order functions as the generalized degrees of freedom in the mid-surface of each layer and three interlaminar stress functions at the interface between the layers.

Finite element analysis of delamination cracks in bending of cross-ply laminates

TL;DR: In this paper, a study of delamination crack growth due to bending in cross-ply laminates is presented, where contact elements were used to prevent the material interpenetration on the crack surfaces.

Finite element modelling and testing of filament-wound orthotropic components

TL;DR: In this paper, a suite of programs named FILFEM II achieves the same objective for non-axisymmetric components manufactured using CADFIL II although its method of operation is quite different from that of FILFMLEM I.

A stress analysis of a thermally loaded bimaterial interface: A localized hybrid analysis

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed discussion of the mechanics of the problem is presented in terms of theoretical and finite element numerical solutions, and it is shown that a three-dimensional stress system is generated at this thermally loaded bimaterial interface in the vicinity of the free surface.

On modelling of laminates containing free-edge delaminations

TL;DR: In this paper, the stress field ahead of the delamination tip and the strain-energy release rate in symmetric composite laminates with mid-plane delamination subjected to mechanical and thermal strains have been studied with the aid of a modified form of the Whitney-Sun theory.

Interlaminar Shear in Laminated Composites Under Generalized Plane Stress

TL;DR: In this article, an analysis of interlaminar shear stresses is performed for a laminate under generalized plane stresses, where the laminate is modeled as a set of anisotropic layers separated by isotropic adhesive layers.
