T cell growth factor receptors. Quantitation, specificity, and biological relevance
TL;DR: The results indicate that TCGF interacts with activated T cells via a receptor through which it initiates the T cell proliferative response, and the relative magnitude of T cell proliferation induced by a given concentration of TCGF closely paralleled the fraction of occupied receptor sites.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interleukin-1β and interleukin-6 are elevated in the cerebrospinal fluid of Alzheimer's and de novo Parkinson's disease patients
TL;DR: The results support the involvement of immunological events in the complex process of neurodegeneration in AD and PD.

The Abundant NK Cells in Human Secondary Lymphoid Tissues Require Activation to Express Killer Cell Ig-Like Receptors and Become Cytolytic
Guido Ferlazzo,Dolca Thomas,Shao Lee Lin,Kiera Goodman,Barbara Morandi,William A. Muller,Alessandro Moretta,Christian Münz +7 more
TL;DR: It is hypothesized that IL-2 can mobilize the NK cells of secondary lymphoid tissues to mediate natural killing during immune responses, and this newly characterized per forin− NK cell compartment in lymph nodes and related tissues probably outnumbers perforin+ NK cells.

Biological activity of recombinant human interleukin-2 produced in Escherichia coli
Steven A. Rosenberg,Elizabeth A. Grimm,Michael Mcgrogan,Michael Doyle,Ernest S. Kawasaki,Kirston E. Koths,David F. Mark +6 more
TL;DR: The recombinant lymphokine supports the growth of murine and human interleukin-2 dependent cell lines, enhances the generation of cytolytic cells in vitro and in vivo after alloimmunization, and generates lymphokin activated killer cells from murineand human lymphocytes.

The biochemistry, biology, and role of interleukin 2 in the induction of cytotoxic T cell and antibody-forming B cell responses.
John J. Farrar,William R. Benjamin,Mary L. Hilfiker,Maureen Howard,William L. Farrar,Janet Fuller-Farrar +5 more
TL;DR: A broad spectrum of biological activities has been ascribed to IL 2, and the definitive biological assay for IL 2 measures the factor's ability to maintain the growth of factor-dependent cytotoxic T cell lines.

T Cell Growth Factor: Parameters of Production and a Quantitative Microassay for Activity
TL;DR: This highly reproducible, quantitative assay for T cell growth factor (TCGF), based upon the tritiated-thymidine incorporation of continuous murine tumor-specific cytotoxic T cell lines (CTLL), has revealed that T lymphocytes are required for its production.
Journal ArticleDOI
Selective in vitro growth of T lymphocytes from normal human bone marrows
TL;DR: The T cells exhibited a strict growth dependence upon Phytohemagglutinin-stimulated normal human lymphocytes and were consistently negative for Epstein-Barr viral information.

A Theory of Self- Nonself Discrimination.
Peter A. Bretscher,Melvin Cohn +1 more
TL;DR: The foregoing requirements provide an explanation for self-nonself discrimination, which involves a specific deletion in the activity of both the humoral- and the carrier-antigen-sensitive cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long term culture of tumour-specific cytotoxic T cells.
Steven Gillis,Kendall A. Smith +1 more
TL;DR: An adaptation of this method which allows the long term culture of antigen-selected cytotoxic T cells which continue to demonstrate high levels of syngeneic tumour-specific cytotoxicity after more than 4 months in culture is described.

On the thymus in the differentiation of "H-2 self-recognition" by T cells: evidence for dual recognition?
R M Zinkernagel,R M Zinkernagel,R M Zinkernagel,G. N. Callahan,G. N. Callahan,G. N. Callahan,A Althage,A Althage,A Althage,S Cooper,S Cooper,S Cooper,Paul A. Klein,Paul A. Klein,Paul A. Klein,Jan Klein +15 more
TL;DR: Adult thymectomized, irradiated and bone marrow reconstituted mice, transplanted with an irradiated thymus of A origin, generate virus-specific cytotoxic T cells specific for infected A targets but not for B targets; this result formally demonstrates the crucial role of thymic epithelial cells in the differentiation of anti-self-H-2 specificities of T cells.
