In this paper, the authors used a spatial light modulator based Brillouin OTDR to measure the mode coupling between LP01 and higher order modes with a spatial resolution of 50 m.
Abstract
We report non-disruptive measurement of distributed mode coupling in a five mode fiber using a spatial light modulator based Brillouin OTDR. Mode coupling between LP01 mode and higher order modes is obtained with a spatial resolution of 50 m.

Capacity Limits of Optical Fiber Networks

TL;DR: In this article, the capacity limit of fiber-optic communication systems (or fiber channels?) is estimated based on information theory and the relationship between the commonly used signal to noise ratio and the optical signal-to-noise ratio is discussed.

Complete discrimination of strain and temperature using Brillouin frequency shift and birefringence in a polarization-maintaining fiber

TL;DR: A novel method that realizes simultaneous and completely discriminative measurement of strain and temperature using one piece of Panda-type polarization-maintaining fibre is presented and it is found that the Brillouin frequency shift and the birefringence have the same signs for strain-dependence but opposite signs for temperature-Dependence.

32-bit/s/Hz spectral efficiency WDM transmission over 177-km few-mode fiber

TL;DR: 32 WDM channels over 12 spatial and polarization modes of 177 km few-mode fiber at a record spectral efficiency of 32 bit/s/Hz are transmitted and recovered using 12×12 multiple-input multiple-output digital signal processing.
