TLDR
Using the generalized 〈 METHANE 〉 model of anaerobic digestion described earlier, the Monod and Haldane kinetics were tested for the experimental data and a good agreement between the model and the batch data with synthetic media and molasses pregrown inoculum was obtained and microorganism activity was evaluated.

Mesophilic and thermophilic anaerobic digestion of primary and secondary sludge. Effect of pre-treatment at elevated temperature

TL;DR: The results suggest that the selection of the pre-treatment duration as well as the temperature of the subsequent anaerobic step for sludge stabilization should depend on the ratio of primary to secondary sludge.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pre-treatment and anaerobic digestion of food waste for high rate methane production – A review

TL;DR: In this paper, food waste with high decomposition potential can be successfully digested anaerobically for the production of biogas, which can be used for electricity production and the final digested sludge as a fertilizer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of physico-chemical pretreatment methods to enhance the sludge disintegration and subsequent anaerobic digestion: an up to date review

TL;DR: In this paper, the up-to-date information about the thermal, chemical and mechanical sludge disintegration techniques (principle, performance at lab, pilot and full scale, advantages and disadvantages).
Journal ArticleDOI

Parallel processing of substrate correlates with greater functional stability in methanogenic bioreactor communities perturbed by glucose.

TL;DR: This hypothesis was tested for microbial community function using two quadruplicate sets of methanogenic communities, each set having substantially different populations, and indicated that the communities with predominantly parallel substrate processing were functionally more stable in response to the perturbation than the Communities with predominantly serial substrate processing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Total solids content: a key parameter of metabolic pathways in dry anaerobic digestion

TL;DR: This study suggested that metabolic pathways present a limit of TS content for high-solid AD, which corresponded to the threshold value of free water content of wheat straw.

Advances in chemistry series

TL;DR: A key to pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry literature and training of literature chemists are discussed in the Advances series as mentioned in this paper, with the focus on the training of chemistry chemists, which is a subject of great interest to the literature chemist.

Conversion processes in anaerobic digestion

TL;DR: In this article, six different conversion processes are identified in the degradation of particulate organic material (biopolymers) to methane, and the kinetic data are applied to the design of an anaerobic digester for raw domestic sludge.

Kinetics of anaerobic treatment: A critical review

TL;DR: The fundamentals of microbial kinetics and continuous culture models are presented and the effect of temperature and inhibitors on the intrinsic kinetic rates is discussed, and Stoichiometric and bioenergetic considerations are reviewed.

Characterization of an acetate-decarboxylating, non-hydrogen-oxidizing methane bacterium.

TL;DR: A methanogenic bacterium, commonly seen in digested sludge and referred to as the “fat rod” or Methanobacterium soehngenii, has been enriched to a monoculture and is characterized.
