TLDR
In this paper, a method has been developed for quantitative measurement of vegetation conditions over broad regions using ERTS-1 spectral bands 5 and 7, corrected for sun angle, which is shown to be correlated with aboveground green biomass on rangelands.
Abstract
The Great Plains Corridor rangeland project utilizes natural vegetation systems as phenological indicators of seasonal development and climatic effects upon regional growth conditions. A method has been developed for quantitative measurement of vegetation conditions over broad regions using ERTS-1 MSS data. Radiance values recorded in ERTS-1 spectral bands 5 and 7, corrected for sun angle, are used to compute a band ratio parameter which is shown to be correlated with aboveground green biomass on rangelands.

Vineyard water status estimation using multispectral imagery from an UAV platform and machine learning algorithms for irrigation scheduling management

TL;DR: Several vegetation indices derived from aerial multispectral imagery were tested to estimate midday stem water potential of grapevines and showed high correlation between the estimated water potential through ANN (stem ANN) and the actual measured stem.

Optimal modalities for radiative transfer-neural network estimation of canopy biophysical characteristics: Evaluation over an agricultural area with CHRIS/PROBA observations

TL;DR: Comparison with a NDVI based approach showed the generally better retrieval accuracy of neural networks, including moderate uncertainties in the reflectance simulations used in the training process improved the flexibility of the neural network in cases where simulations departed slightly from observations.

Multi-wavelength canopy LiDAR for remote sensing of vegetation: Design and system performance

TL;DR: In this article, a multi-wavelength canopy LiDAR (MWCL) system was designed for remote sensing of vegetation reflection and its measurement performance was investigated, which operates with four lasers of different wavelengths chosen according to nitrogen stresses that induce changes in the optical properties and spectral reflectance of rice leaves.

Optimal Landsat TM band combinations and vegetation indices for discrimination of six grassland types in eastern Kansas

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the use of raw Thematic Mapper (TM) band combinations and several derived vegetation indices to determine optimal vegetation indices and band combinations for discriminating among six grassland management practices in eastern Kansas.
