TLDR
In this paper, a method has been developed for quantitative measurement of vegetation conditions over broad regions using ERTS-1 spectral bands 5 and 7, corrected for sun angle, which is shown to be correlated with aboveground green biomass on rangelands.Abstract:
The Great Plains Corridor rangeland project utilizes natural vegetation systems as phenological indicators of seasonal development and climatic effects upon regional growth conditions. A method has been developed for quantitative measurement of vegetation conditions over broad regions using ERTS-1 MSS data. Radiance values recorded in ERTS-1 spectral bands 5 and 7, corrected for sun angle, are used to compute a band ratio parameter which is shown to be correlated with aboveground green biomass on rangelands.read more

Assessing very high resolution UAV imagery for monitoring forest health during a simulated disease outbreak
TL;DR: In this paper, a disease outbreak in mature Pinus radiata D. don trees using targeted application of herbicide was simulated and a nonparametric approach was used to model physiological stress based on spectral indices and was found to provide good classification accuracy.

An Algorithm for Extracting Burned Areas from Time Series of AVHRR GAC Data Applied at a Continental Scale
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a multitemporal multithreshold approach, based on the spectral changes of the land surface after a fire occurrence, to detect burned surfaces using a long-time series of low-resolution satellite data.
