Colossal Ionic Conductivity at Interfaces of Epitaxial ZrO2:Y2O3/SrTiO3 Heterostructures

TL;DR: It is proposed that the atomic reconstruction at the interface between highly dissimilar structures (such as fluorite and perovskite) provides both a large number of carriers and a high-mobility plane, yielding colossal values of the ionic conductivity.

Technological development of hydrogen production by solid oxide electrolyzer cell (SOEC)

TL;DR: In this paper, the state-of-the-art solid oxide electrolyzer cell (SOEC) technologies are reviewed and the development of the important steam electrolyzer components, such as the ionic conducting electrolyte and the electrodes, are summarized and discussed.

Nanobatteries in redox-based resistive switches require extension of memristor theory

TL;DR: It is shown on both a theoretical and an experimental level that nanoionic-type memristive elements are inherently controlled by non-equilibrium states resulting in a nanobattery.

Ceramic Fuel Cells

TL;DR: Ceramic fuel cells, commonly referred to as solid-oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), are presently under development for a variety of power generation applications as mentioned in this paper, and the critical issues posed by the development of this type of fuel cell are discussed.

Electronic properties of doped semiconductors

TL;DR: In the last fifteen years, there has been a noticeable shift towards impure semiconductors -a shift which came about because it is precisely the impurities that are essential to a number of major semiconductor devices.

Encyclopedia of Materials: Science and Technology

TL;DR: In this article, the fundamental core theory of functional properties and properties of materials are discussed. But the authors focus on the physical properties of thin films and artificial multilayers, rather than the structural properties of the materials themselves.

Mesoscopic fast ion conduction in nanometre-scale planar heterostructures

TL;DR: The preparation of defined heterolayered films composed of CaF2 and BaF2 that exhibit ionic conductivity increasing proportionally with interface density are reported, in excellent agreement with semi-infinite space-charge calculations, assuming a redistribution of fluoride ions at the interfaces.
