The realization of a quantum register is demonstrated using a string of single neutral atoms which are trapped in an optical dipole trap and the predominant dephasing mechanism is identified.Abstract:
We demonstrate the realization of a quantum register using a string of single neutral atoms which are trapped in an optical dipole trap. The atoms are selectively and coherently manipulated in a magnetic field gradient using microwave radiation. Our addressing scheme operates with a high spatial resolution, and qubit rotations on individual atoms are performed with 99% contrast. In a final readout operation we analyze each individual atomic state. Finally, we have measured the coherence time and identified the predominant dephasing mechanism for our register.read more

Many-Body Physics with Ultracold Gases
TL;DR: In this article, a review of recent experimental and theoretical progress concerning many-body phenomena in dilute, ultracold gases is presented, focusing on effects beyond standard weakcoupling descriptions, such as the Mott-Hubbard transition in optical lattices, strongly interacting gases in one and two dimensions, or lowest-Landau-level physics in quasi-two-dimensional gases in fast rotation.

Quantum information with Rydberg atoms
TL;DR: Rydberg atoms with principal quantum number $n⪢1$ have exaggerated atomic properties including dipole-dipole interactions that scale as ${n}^{4}$ and radiative lifetimes that scale at least{n}−3}$ as mentioned in this paper, and it was proposed a decade ago to implement quantum gates between neutral atom qubits.

A quantum gas microscope for detecting single atoms in a Hubbard-regime optical lattice
TL;DR: A quantum gas ‘microscope’ that bridges the two approaches to creating highly controllable quantum information systems, realizing a system in which atoms of a macroscopic ensemble are detected individually and a complete set of degrees of freedom for each of them is determined through preparation and measurement.

Polynomial-Time Algorithms for Prime Factorization and Discrete Logarithms on a Quantum Computer
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered factoring integers and finding discrete logarithms on a quantum computer and gave an efficient randomized algorithm for these two problems, which takes a number of steps polynomial in the input size of the integer to be factored.

Observation of Bose-Einstein Condensation in a Dilute Atomic Vapor
TL;DR: A Bose-Einstein condensate was produced in a vapor of rubidium-87 atoms that was confined by magnetic fields and evaporatively cooled and exhibited a nonthermal, anisotropic velocity distribution expected of the minimum-energy quantum state of the magnetic trap in contrast to the isotropic, thermal velocity distribution observed in the broad uncondensed fraction.

Acceleration and trapping of particles by radiation pressure
TL;DR: In this paper, it is hypothesized that similar acceleration and trapping are possible with atoms and molecules using laser light tuned to specific optical transitions, and the implications for isotope separation and other applications of physical interest are discussed.
