GMT allows users to manipulate (x,y,z) data, and generate PostScript illustrations, including simple x-y diagrams, contour maps, color images, and artificially illuminated, perspective, and/or shaded-relief plots using a variety of map projections.
Abstract
Version 31 of the Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) has been released More than 6000 scientists worldwide are currently using this free, public domain collection of UNIX tools that contains programs serving a variety of research functions GMT allows users to manipulate (x,y) and (x,y,z) data, and generate PostScript illustrations, including simple x-y diagrams, contour maps, color images, and artificially illuminated, perspective, and/or shaded-relief plots using a variety of map projections (see Wessel and Smith [1991] and Wessel and Smith [1995], for details) GMT has been installed under UNIX on most types of workstations and both IBM-compatible and Macintosh personal computers

A thermomechanical wedge model of Taiwan constrained by fission-track thermochronometry

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented 31 new apatite fission-track (AFT) ages for the island of Taiwan that, when combined with existing AFT and zircon fission track (ZFT) data, provide regional spatial coverage of the island with respect to low-temperature thermochronometry.

Protracted construction of gabbroic crust at a slow spreading ridge: Constraints from 206Pb/238U zircon ages from Atlantis Massif and IODP Hole U1309D (30°N, MAR)

TL;DR: Sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) zircon ages of 24 samples from oceanic crust recovered in Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) Hole U1309D and from the surface of Atlantis Massif, Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR) (30°N) document a protracted history of accretion in the footwall to an oceanic detachment fault as mentioned in this paper.

Uppermost mantle velocities beneath China and surrounding regions

TL;DR: In this paper, the average velocity of the mantle lid beneath China is 8.05 km/s, with a range from −0.30km/s to 0.35 km/m.

Models of crustal thickness for South America from seismic refraction, receiver functions and surface wave tomography

TL;DR: In this paper, a compilation of point crustal thicknesses from seismic refraction experiments, receiver function analyses, and surface-wave dispersion was used to develop crustal models in continental South America.

Imaging magnetic sources using Euler's equation

TL;DR: In this article, a combined inversion for the structural index and the source location from the Euler deconvolution, by using only the derivatives of the magnetic anomalies, is proposed.

Free software helps map and display data

TL;DR: The Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) is introduced, which is a free, public domain software package that can be used to manipulate columns of tabular data, time series, and gridded data sets and to display these data in a variety of forms ranging from simple x-y plots to maps and color, perspective, and shaded-relief illustrations.
